Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
When the odds are rigged, survival is just the first lie.
In the brutal world of Panem, teenage Haymitch Abernathy is forced into a twisted fight to the death where only one survivor walks away. Clever, defiant, and desperate to protect those he loves, Haymitch resolves to outsmart a sadistic system designed to crush him. But as the arena turns into a nightmare of ruthless betrayal, he quickly learns that winning isn't the hardest part—it's surviving the terrifying price of defiance.
Encourage your student to drop by the library to grab a copy and join the conversation!
Games and Puzzles
Looking to clear out your closet and support our students? Our MVHS Library is looking to build our games and puzzle collection to give students a fun, screen-free break during off blocks and lunch!
We are accepting donations of:
Board games & strategy games (Gently used & complete)
Card games (UNO, Exploding Kittens, classic decks, etc.)
Jigsaw puzzles
Please ensure all games and puzzles have all their pieces intact!
Drop off your donations at our MVHS Library with Mrs. Bass & Mrs. Gebhardt anytime during school hours. Thank you for helping us make the Library an engaging space for everyone!
Chrombook/Technology Update 💻
Chromebooks
Freshmen must swap last year's 8th grade device in for a new Chromebook. Please stop by the library to exchange your device if you still have an older model.
As always, if you have technology questions, feel free to pop into the library. We are happy to assist.
Protect Your Student’s Chromebook with Safeware Insurance
Accidents happen. For $25–$36 per year, depending on the Chromebook model, families can purchase Safeware Chromebook insurance to help cover accidental damage such as cracked screens, drops, and liquid spills. Covered repairs have no deductibles or service fees.
How it works
Purchase coverage from Safeware using district ID DIST0132
If damage happens, there is no claim for families to file
Bring the Chromebook to the library at your student’s school
TSD works directly with Safeware to handle the repair
Without insurance, repair costs can add up quickly, and full device replacement may cost $200–$300. Learn more about repair costs on TSD’s website.
Safeware does not cover lost devices or deliberate damage.

Freshman Seminar Planners
Freshman Seminar planners are an important tool for helping students stay organized, manage their time, and keep track of daily assignments and responsibilities.
Students are expected to bring and use their planner every day. Consistent use of the planner will help students develop strong organizational habits and stay on top of their academic expectations.
Please remember:
- 📘 Daily Use: Planners should be brought and used each day.
- ✏️ Keep It Safe: Students are responsible for keeping their planner in good condition.
- 🔄 One Replacement: If a planner is lost, students will be provided one replacement planner. If the replacement is also lost, students will be responsible for obtaining another planner.
Thank you for helping our freshmen build the organization and responsibility skills they need for a successful school year!

Thompson Education Foundation's Help Kids Succeed school supply program provided almost 1,600 supply-filled backpacks for our economically vulnerable students this year.
Families should visit the school in which they are registered to receive a backpack. For example, if a requesting family has two students, one in 4th grade and one in 9th grade, they would need to visit both their registered elementary school and high school to receive backpacks. Supplies are different for elementary/middle/high school levels.
