April 2026 Edition
Principal's Message:
Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms!!
We are at a very busy time of the school year. Students have just completed SBA testing at PGS. WCAS testing at Sequoia is May 6th and at PGS on May 7th. SBA testing will be held at Sequoia May 19th and 21st, followed by graduation 3 weeks later.
Students have demonstrated they are ready for all the state testing and we are excited to see their levels of performance. I ask that you encourage your student to do their best, as we use the results to inform our curricular improvements moving forward.
SHS Term 7 ends May 11th, and the final term of the school year, Term 8, begins May 13th.
It has been a wonderful school year and I am very proud of all the accomplishments our students have shown this year. I wish you warm weather and calm winds to recover from the month ahead.
With gratitude,
Jack L. Roy

Staff Member Updates:
There have been a number of changes within our staff in the month of April. We appreciate all of their time and many contributions to SHS/PGS/GOAL/HS Online programs. They will all be greatly missed!
Aimee Leggett, Art Teacher
At the beginning of this school year Aimee Leggett, our Art Teacher at Sequoia High School, was diagnosed with a rare cancer. Aimee had taken leave for this school year to seek treatment. On Sunday April 26, 2026, Aimee passed away at home surrounded by her family. Aimee was truly loved by the staff and students at Sequoia and the Art Department thrived under her leadership. Aimee will be greatly missed by all and we send our heartfelt condolences to her family and all who knew her.
Lina De Folo, Safety Officer
Lina, our beloved Safety and Security Officer, left SHS/PGS/GOAL/HS Online on May 1st to take a job that better serves her family's needs at this time. It was an emotional good bye to a staff member who made it her mission to know the names of every student and parent that she possibly could and who took great pride in her work here at our schools. We appreciate all that she accomplished here on our campus. Best of luck in your new opportunity, Lina!
Scott Aitken, Business Electives Teacher & Photographer
Scott Aitken, our CTE Business Electives and Digital Photography Teacher, who also generously serves as our SHS photographer, announced his retirement at the end of the current school year. Scott teaches a diverse number of classes here at SHS and he is leaving "big shoes to fill". Scott has also generously served as our SHS Graduation photographer for many years, giving of his own personal time, and has also willingly photographed so many of the SHS activities throughout the school year. Congratulations on your retirement, Scott! Staff and students alike will miss your presence here at SHS.

Core Value Champion for Diversity
Congratulations to Anna Avetisyan
Each month an Everett Public Schools student can be nominated by their teacher who demonstrates the Core Value of the Month. The nominations are sent to Administration where students are selected to be recognized as a Core Value Champion.
Mrs. Wight nominated Anna for exemplifying the Core Value of the Month, Diversity. Here's what she wrote about Anna…
"Port Gardner 8th grader Anna Avetisyan embodies our core value of diversity in both her actions and her attitude. She leads with inclusivity, ensuring that every student feels welcomed, valued, and heard. Whether collaborating in groups or participating in class discussions she creates space for all voices. She chooses to celebrate diverse perspectives in her studies: choosing to learn about Japanese-American artist Isamu Nogushi in art for example. She not only appreciates the richness of our diverse community but actively contributes to building a school culture where everyone belongs. We are proud to recognize her for representing the core value of diversity with such authenticity and heart."

Walk FITT, HS Online Options Health Class Log Pics taken by Students
Course Descriptions:
In Walk FITT 1, students will experience an increase in cardiorespiratory endurance, core strength, and stamina. These life-changing results will occur over a 12-week period of logging daily steps based on a personalized fitness plan which includes body weight movements to help facilitate a comprehensive approach to walking/step fitness along with a weekly increase in steps. Each student will be expected to track steps using their iPhone or Android step app of choice. Weekly log submissions along with Canvas module assignments are required.
In Walk FITT 2, students will develop a personalized fitness plan based on the number of steps they take a day, focused on their personal goals and log activity for 12 weeks. But before they do that, students will dive into the mechanics of muscles and flexibility. Additionally, students will work together with a group online to complete an ongoing project. This course will challenge students to improve their walk fitness. Tracking steps with a pedometer, weekly and consistent logging is required.
