Dear Families,

September is here! We have had a super week and a half of school. Our students are beginning to get into a good school routine. Last week, we sent home some information regarding our school-wide expectations as well as general discipline information. Please take some time to review this information and remind your students about what the expectations are. Thank you for the support you are giving to them!

In this newsletter, you will find some important links, dates, and information that will be useful to you and help us all to get off to a great start! If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or to the office.

Thank you,

Mrs. Propst, Principal (ejpropst@k12.wv.us)

Mr. Hovatter, Assistant Principal (phovatte@k12.wv.us)

Student Attendance Student Attendance

September - School Attendance Awareness Month:

September is School Attendance Awareness Month. This upcoming month, each student will be given a house to track his/her attendance. For every day they are present, they will color in a block on the house.

In addition, to encourage good school attendance, there will be Random Attendance Days (RADs) throughout the school year. Yesterday was our 1st RAD. All students who were present today received a friendship bracelet. Each month, there will be a random day where there will be a special incentive or activity for students present to receive or to participate.

Student Absences - Submitting Absence Notes & BCS Calling System:

When your student is absent from school, please submit a note when your student returns. Absence notes may now be submitted electronically this year by following this link:

https://www.berkeleycountyschools.org/o/bcs/page/absencenote

Also, when your child is absent, calls are made district-wide to let parents/guardians know. If you know that your child is home, you do not need to call the school. It is a courtesy call for families and mainly is applicable to older students, but is a district-wide system.

*Please note that there are no excused absences for trips per policy.

School-Wide Attendance Monthly Contest:

Each day, school admin will visit classrooms to check student attendance at 10:00 AM. If the entire class is present at that time, a star sticker will be given. At the end of the month, the class in each grade level with the most stars will be the keeper of the grade level attendance rocket. We are hoping each class wins multiple times this year! Please see a picture of the chart.

Volunteer and Chaperone Information

Please follow the entire BCS process to be approved as a Volunteer/Chaperone. (Please note that completing this process does not guarantee that you will be a chaperone - depending on the number needed, etc.) RES receives an approved Volunteer/Chaperone list as parents/guardians work through the process.

BCS requires background checks to be completed for those wishing to volunteer and possibly chaperone field trips as well as other components. Please click the button below to find out information about these background checks and to begin the process if you are interested.

School Fundraiser

Our annual School Fundraiser will begin very soon. Again this year, we are doing something different instead of the traditional catalog sale. We are working out all the details for a "walk-a-thon" at Rosemont. Please be watching for more information. The funds raised are used to purchase student and staff learning materials, to purchase school safety items, and to provide various incentives for our students and staff. We appreciate your support!

LSIC - Local School Improvement Council & Strategic Plan

Each year, we ask for parent members for our LSIC at the school level. Please email Mrs. Propst at ejpropst@k12.wv.us if you are interested in serving on this committee. There are four meetings throughout the school year to discuss general school information as well as to seek suggestions or answer any questions. The meetings will be at Rosemont Elem. at 3:45 PM on the dates selected. The first meeting will be on September 23rd. If you are interested in possibly being on this committee, please email Mrs. Propst by Friday, September 18th. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend.

Also, the annual Strategic Plan is complete and available for review. Please contact Mrs. Propst if you would like to review our overall school plan for the year. This plan will be discussed at the upcoming LSIC meeting as well.

Thank you!
