Family Newsletter : October 9, 2026
Dear Families,
It’s been a week full of reading, writing, speaking, and listening! Mad Libs, Author assemblies, read-a-thon, and book swaps have brought our students and teachers together around a love of literacy. Thank you to the literacy committee for creating such a fun week!
We’re excited to announce that we have received official approval to join the National School Lunch Program. We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Alex Barlow, our Food Service Manager, and her team of kitchen staff for making this happen! Below you will find the press release explaining the program and our responsibilities.
This will require every student currently on a school-approved fee waiver to complete the official NSLP fee waiver in order to continue to requalify for free or reduced meals. Ms. Alex will send out emails specifically to these families. Please contact her with questions abarlow@mmautah.org No action is needed if your children are not receiving free or reduced meals.
Next week is Family Teacher Conferences! Tuesday and Wednesday will be early release days at 1:15pm. If you need to sign up for conferences, please reach out to the office 801-827-0150 or your student’s teacher. We’ll also host a Flu Clinic on Wednesday from 3-6pm if you’d like to get your flu shot. We also have a limited number of pumpkins for sale and all proceeds will benefit our 7th and 8th grade College and Career Awareness classes!
Ms. Lisa needs help from parents to run the Scholastic Book event during conferences. Parents who help at the Book Fair will get a $10 gift certificate to spend at the Book Fair. Please sign up for a 1-hour slot (or multiple slots) to help out: https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/zygba

This week, you’ll be hearing from Ms. Tiffany Tuttle, who is the team lead for Lower Elementary. Ms. Tiffany recently was a nominee for Teacher of the Year and has been teaching in MMA for the past 7 years.
Lower Elementary has started a new activity this year. We are calling it World Explorers. We are teaching the students about the continents of the world through exploration with different teachers. Some of our groups started on Asia and here is what one teacher said about her group:
In our world explorers unit about Asia, we have been learning about the many different types of biomes in Asia, where they are at, and some of the plants and animals that live there. We have learned that Asia has some extremely hot and dry places, some very wet and green places, and some cold places that make it hard for many things to live.
It has been a fun adventure to explore the world with our wonderful Lower Elementary students.
