What we are learning:
Reading
During the month of December, we will be exploring different cultures by learning about holidays celebrated around the world. Specific countries we will be diving into include Mexico, Brazil, the Netherlands, Egypt, Australia, and Japan. For each country, we will be discussing holiday cuisine, traditional celebrations, fun facts, and of course, Santa! Students will compare and contrast holidays in other countries, read stories, and make crafts to accompany each country.
UFLI
Students participate in Walk to Read daily for phonics instruction. Students are grouped based on their specific phonics needs so that instruction is differentiated for each child. They will read a variety of stories and play various phonics games.

Math
Throughout Unit 4, students will learn how to use a number line to add and subtract numbers within 100. This will connect to our previous unit, learning how to measure length, by having students make correlations between reading number lines and rulers. By the end of this unit, students will be able to successfully identify, locate, and represent numbers on a number line as well as utilize them to add and subtract.

School Expectations
This month, we invite our students to explore how people around the world celebrate their holidays. Every culture has its own meaningful traditions, and learning about these differences helps us grow in respect and understanding. As we begin this journey, we encourage everyone to stay curious, kind, and respectful. Together, weβll discover the many beautiful ways people celebrate and appreciate the diversity that makes our world so special.
