Message From the Principal Message From the Principal

Dear Wildwood Families,

Last week I shared that the CAASPP results (state testing) would be available possibly in August. Well, I was a little off on that! Some of our CAASPP results might be available now. Families may be able to see results in the "Paperless Assessment Reporting" area and on the Parent Portal. I haven’t had a chance to check them out but I wanted to let you know they might be there. Results from the Writing part of the CAASPP usually come in later as those need to be scored differently. I’ll let you know if I hear more.

Today, seniors from PHS who are former Wildwood grads stopped by in their caps and gowns to walk through the school and received cheers from all of our students to celebrate their upcoming graduation. They even stayed to play kickball with the kindergartners (pictures below). It was very special for our students and teachers to see these big high schoolers and celebrate as they move on to their next chapter.

As you may know, next year we will have a new teacher on staff because 4th grade teacher, Martin Lewis, is retiring. Wildwood is a tight community with a lot of history with certain teachers, and we’ve had some requests to be placed with the “known” teacher. We cannot accommodate everyone’s requests. Our teachers collaborate closely and work very well together and I’m sure this will continue. There will be a lot of support for our new teacher (experienced but new to Wildwood) in order to support their transition to a new school. My hope is that everyone will be welcoming and supportive of the new teacher, and happy to be assigned to either class. It sets everyone up for success, especially the students.

When making classes, there are many factors that go into class placement (gender, race, friends, behavior, academics, parental involvement, history, intervention supports, energy, social dynamics just to name some) so the process is not an easy one. We spend a lot of time creating balanced classes at each grade level and we appreciate your understanding and support of the process.

Thank you for supporting Wildwood Elementary.

Beth Rhine

Volunteer for Play Day Volunteer for Play Day

The end of the year is in sight, which means it is almost time for the best day of the year: Wildwood Play Day!

Play Day will take place on the last day of school, Thursday June 5th. Students in each grade will have 45 minutes out on the yard to participate in various sports, games and activities with their friends at their own pace. To make this special day happen, we are in need of parents to help with a variety of jobs.

We need help setting up the equipment for each station, parents who can “staff” each station and help it run smoothly, volunteers to donate some materials, and helpers to break down the equipment at the end of the day. If you don’t think you’re qualified to run a station, don’t worry! You are! The stations will be simple activities that only require a smile and positive attitude for 45 minutes :) The general time slots are below:

  • 8:15 - 9:00 - Set Up Equipment

  • 9:00 - 9:45 - Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd Grade Play Day

  • 10:00 - 10:45 - 3rd & 4th Grade Play Day

  • 10:50 - 11:50 - 5th Grade Play Day

  • 12:00 - 12:30 - Break Down Equipment

Activity stations are still being finalized, but you can expect activities like basketball, beach ball volleyball, soccer shooting, jump ropes & hula hoops, 4-square, obstacle course, relay races, and, weather permitting, a water game!

If you have some time to spare and would like to help us make Play Day a success, please follow this link to sign up for a time slot and job. Thanks for considering it and for all you do to make Wildwood such a special place!

Medication at School Medication at School

For a student to have any medication at school, the school office must have a Piedmont Unified School District Medication Form completed and signed by both a parent/guardian and your health care provider on file.

This includes both prescription and over-the-counter medications. Medications must be in their original container, labeled by a pharmacist as required.

Medications will be kept in the office and administered per the doctors instructions, unless it is determined and documented by both the physician and parent/guardian that the student may self-carry the medication. Medication forms are valid for one calendar year.

If you have any questions, please email the District Nurses at nurses@piedmont.k12.ca.us

GIfting Message

Many thanks to all who’ve given to the Staff Gifting fund this year. Donations raised at Winterfest in December enabled WPC, on the behalf of the entire Wildwood community, to continue the tradition of gifting each staff member an e-card of their choosing! We are honored to provide this biannual gift, which is organized and distributed by PEF.

If you would like to donate more or have not yet been able to contribute to this fund, either at Winterfest or elsewhere, you are welcome to do so by contributing directly to Wildwood's PEF Store here.

Thank you, Schoolmates Staff! Wildwood always includes Schoolmates Staff in our end of year staff gifting. Financial donations from generous families whose children are enrolled in Schoolmates go directly to individual staff members who provide such great care to our kiddos after school. Please consider donating via Venmo to @Amy-Griffith-4 (please label your donation “Schoolmates”).

All funds will be collected until Friday, May 30th, and then distributed equally. Thank you for your support! Please email amywgriffith@gmail.com with any questions.

Wildwood Dad's Club Wildwood Dad's Club

Our last meeting of the year is this Thursday, May 22, 7:30pm at Cato’s Ale House, 3891 Piedmont Ave, Oakland

Highlights of this Year:

The core mission of the Wildwood Dads’ Club is building community and this year we are proud to say that we accomplished that in spades with the following events:

  • August Welcome Back BBQ - hundreds enjoyed grillables together with an ample amount of fun, smiles, music, and yes burger and hot dog costumes!

  • August Welcome Reception for Dads new to Wildwood - getting to know each other and current dads.

  • October Pumpkin Patch. Our most successful Patch ever! Over 80 dads, moms, kids, and even grandparents gathered all month long and sold over 5,000 pumpkins!

  • February Island Vibes Crab Feed. Around 150 parents came together for a fun filled night full of delicious food and lively music. Over 25 volunteers made it possible!

  • April Appreciation Event. Dozens of Wildwood Dads came together for a morning of golf followed by an afternoon of socializing by the Bay.

Funding for Wildwood

Wildwood Dads’ Club is proud to have funded the Mileage Club awards and new PE equipment. In addition, we partnered closely with the Wildwood Parents Club and Interim Principal Beth Rhine to identify and fund projects. This centered on asking teachers, staff, and even students what are the highest needs of the school - ensuring that our volunteer led fundraising goes to these areas of need. Ideas were prioritized by feasibility, need, and other parameters. A huge thank you to Principal Rhine for leading this process! The result is that we are proud to say that the Dads’ Club and the Parent’s Club are jointly funding the following projects):

  • Computer lab upgrade - 28 student desktops, 16 teacher desktops, and 43 monitors.

  • New chairs for the multi-purpose room

  • The Gaga pit in the lower playground

  • Inclusion room materials

  • New dishwasher for staff lounge

  • Water bottle filling stations - installation coming soon

  • Wifi extenders

  • Kindergarten basketball hoops

  • and more to follow!
