“A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.” -William Arthur Ward
Room 320 has been very busy in the two weeks since spring break. It seems like a distant memory, and the Chicago spring is further confusing us on what season it really is. The one season that doesn't change in our classroom is the season of kindness. We are working really hard to be kind and respectful to everyone, all the time.
- In reading, we are now working on reading non fiction and have turned into researchers learning about the American Revolution. So far, Scholars are very interested in this topic and are excited to read and learn more. We also have a class SMART goal we are trying to reach with volume of books read this month. Take a peek at the photo below to see how we each set a goal unique to us, and how our progress is coming. Please encourage your scholar to be reading at least 30 minutes each day!
- In math we are studying geometry. This is a great change from fractions, and math mavens are enjoying learning different geometry concepts, including how to use a protractor to measure and draw angles. This week we'll be taking a closer look at triangles, quadrilaterals, and symmetry.
- In writing, we are finishing up our final drafts of our "Senior Stories". We enjoyed Mrs. G setting us up with an amazing experience to get to know someone from a different generation. It was hard to tell who enjoyed the field trip more! I'll be sending home pictures this week of your child and who they interviewed. We are sending our materials off to be published this Friday, and will receive our book in May with our published authors work!
- In science, we are just starting our unit on the Earth's Changing Surface. Scientists will be looking to identify and provide evidence to the cause and effect of changes on the Earth's surface. We are excited for some new hands on learning as this is a messy unit!
- On Wednesday, April 19th, we will be having a special speaker, Dr. Marcia McEvoy come to work with our 4th grade students on How to Reduce Student Cruelty and Enhance Caring Relationships. This is a wonderful opportunity for the future leaders of Field School (& beyond). This presentation is about cultivating a community of respect, and how each one of our 4th graders play an important role in this community. Do learn more about Dr. McEvoy, please click her name and check out her website. A huge shout out to the PTO for sponsoring this important event. Click here to read the letter that came home on Friday.
- Don't forget to check your inbox each week to fill out the digital pledge card for healthy living month! This week's focus in on helping the Earth! Wear green and blue to honor earth day this Friday!
- Walk a thon pledges are due each Monday morning. Our school met their Week 1 goal so 4th grade will be deciding on the reward today that will happen later this week. I hope more pledges come in today to help us reach our week 2 goal! Click here for everything Walkathon!
Thanks for reading! I hope everyone has a wonderful week - and maybe we'll see some spring like weather?
