Dear Glenn High School Families,

It is with deep sorrow that I share heartbreaking news affecting our Grizzly community. We have learned that one of our students, Braxton Jarmon, tragically lost his life during the recent flooding in Central Texas. Braxton was entering his sophomore year.

At this time, his sister Felicity, also a Glenn student, and their step-mom are still missing. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, and our thoughts remain with her and the entire Jarmon family and their friends during this incredibly difficult time.

We understand that receiving this kind of news when school is not in session may feel especially difficult. While our campus counseling team is currently off duty at this point in the summer, our district's counseling services team is standing by to support any student or family in need. If you or your child would like to speak with someone, please reach out through Let’s Talk or call 512-570-0174 for assistance.

For students who may need in-person support, counselors and social workers will be available at Glenn HS Tuesday, July 15, between 9 a.m. and noon. To access these services, students should check in at the front desk, and a staff member will escort them to the library.

Counseling Services wants to remind our community that students may experience a wide range of strong emotions following such a loss, even if they didn't know Braxton well. Those close to their family may be feeling additional strain. Our counselors emphasize the importance of allowing students to express their feelings openly and honestly. Providing a supportive environment where students feel safe to share is crucial. We encourage you to do the same and offer these helpful tips for parents provided by the National Association of School Psychologists. To assist your child,

  • Provide opportunities to express thoughts and feelings about death.

  • Answer questions using concrete descriptions and be prepared for repeated questions. Older students may ask more detailed questions to try to understand what happened.

  • Some children may feel less comfortable showing feelings and seeing expressions of grief in others. Make sure to provide these students with a variety of ways to express grief.

  • Watch for changes in your child’s behavior.

This unimaginable loss leaves us with heavy hearts. If you need any services or someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here for you. As always, our strength as a community is in how we show up for one another. We encourage families to speak with their children and remind them that it’s okay to grieve, to ask questions, or to seek help.

Thank you for keeping Braxton and the Jarmon family in your hearts. We will continue to honor his memory together, as a Grizzly family.

Sincerely,

Josh Haug

Principal
