EVERY COUGAR, EVERY DAY!
Gannett Peak August 2026 Newsletter
Greetings, Cougar Families!
It is with great pleasure that I write to welcome you and your child to the 2026-27 school year at Gannett Peak Elementary! You may have a few questions about routines and procedures here at Gannett Peak. This letter is to address some of those questions to hopefully put your mind at ease and make the first days of school, for both you and your child, as enjoyable as possible.
School Hours:
School starts at 8:00. Supervision on the playground begins at 7:45. The tardy bell rings at 8:05. If the time is after 8:05, please drop your child off at the front of the building and have them enter through the front doors. The cafeteria opens at 7:30 for students who wish to eat breakfast at school, and the breakfast entry is at the double doors in the courtyard next to the Kindergarten playground.
School dismisses at 3:00 for grades 1-3 and 2:55 for Kinder every day except Wednesday. On Wednesdays we have early dismissal at 2:05 for grades 1-3 and 2:00 for Kindergarten. Each school day at 2:55 (except on Wednesday) there is a bell to alert parents that they can come inside the school fence to pick up their child at dismissal time. Please wait to enter the school grounds until that bell sounds. All students being picked up will exit out the west side of the building with their teacher.
Lunch:
Lunch runs for 20 minutes per grade level at the following times: Kindergarten 10:50; 1st grade 11:15; 2nd grade 11:40; 3rd grade 12:05. During the first several weeks of school, our staff places a strong emphasis on helping students learn and practice the routines and expectations that make lunchtime safe, efficient, and enjoyable for everyone. To allow students the opportunity to build independence and become comfortable with these procedures, we ask that families wait until October 1 before joining their child for lunch. Should you come to join your student for lunch after that date, you will need to sign in at the front office with a valid form of identification. Hot lunch for adults is $5.00.
AM Student Drop Off:
Families are asked to use the one-way drop-off alleyway on 5th street for AM drop off. Cars should always pull up to the sidewalk on the right-hand side of the road, and students should always exit out the right side of vehicles. Please do not park or have your child exit on the left hand side of the road. This is for everyone’s safety. Specific grade level zones are labeled along the fence wrap around the school grounds. During the first four days of school, August 25-28, parents are able to come inside the fence and say their goodbyes. After that, parents are to say their goodbyes outside the fence. The drop off zone is congested, so we ask that you keep this time short and sweet to give all parents the chance to drop off in an efficient manner.
Transportation:
Should your child require transportation to and from school on one of our route buses, please contact the FCSD #1 transportation department at (307) 332-3798 to make arrangements.
Seesaw:
Teachers at Gannett Peak use the Seesaw platform as the primary mode of communication with families. Seesaw is available as an app or through email. If you have used Seesaw at FCSD #1 in past school years, the program will automatically sync your registration information and place you into the correct classroom(s) for this school year. Otherwise, you will receive an invitation to join a Seesaw class soon!
Open House:
Please plan to join us during our Welcome Back Open House on Wednesday, August 19th. This event takes place between 5:30-6:30 and provides an opportunity for you and your child to meet their teacher, tour their new classroom, and grab a bite to eat! A hot dog picnic dinner will take place at the gazebo / playground area on the north side of the building during the Open House.
As the principal of Gannett Peak, I’m very excited to welcome our returning and new Cougars to an exciting, fresh school year. I look forward to working alongside you and helping your child succeed. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call the school at 332-6690.
Go Cougars!!!
