From sidewalk chalk art to a welcoming coffee shop, ES continues to show what it means to be a true community. See how our town brought home three statewide honors for neighborly spirit. Thank you Laura Mize, for finding a niche that fits where our community was ready to go.
Thrive Excelsior is a community coalition committed to increasing quality of life in ES. This week's Impact Highlight - Housing. Using public data & the Community Survey, we wanted to know whether people have a safe place to live & are we doing enough to improve housing conditions? Why it Matters: Poor housing quality is linked to injuries, chronic disease, & childhood development. This measure includes homes that are overcrowded, may not have complete plumbing or kitchen facilities, OR cost its occupants more than 30% of their income. This data calculated using information reported by the Census Bureau. In ES suboptimal housing has declined 7% since 2018. In 2022, ES Suboptimal Housing measured 19% compared to 26% for the State of Missouri & 32% for the US. The Community Survey revealed that residents are dissatisfied with housing in ES. The Thrive Housing Task Force meets monthly to review data from MARC's Housing Data Hub, connects with MARC's Regional Housing Partnership, & reviews the housing component of the Comprehensive Plan. The group heard about plans to market city owned lots for development. Working groups reported on programs for financial literacy, blight, and homeless connect.
