First Week Updates First Week Updates

Dear Westbrook Park Elementary School Families:

We are off to a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! Our first week has been filled with excitement, learning, and opportunities for students to reconnect with friends and teachers. We are so pleased with the positive energy throughout our building and appreciate the support you have provided in helping your children begin the year successfully. As we continue into the school year, we want to share an important reminder regarding student safety during arrival and dismissal.

Arrival & Dismissal Safety Reminders

Please take a few moments to review the following safe walking habits with your child:

  • Always use designated crosswalks.
  • Follow the directions of our crossing guards.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Never walk between parked cars or enter traffic unexpectedly.

We also ask that all parents and guardians exercise extra caution when driving near the school:

  • Drive slowly and remain alert at all times.
  • Be mindful that children may step out unexpectedly.
  • Do not park in the bus loop during arrival or dismissal.
  • Please do not walk through or around the car line area. If you are parking and walking to pick up your child, students must be picked up from the Dolphin Courtyard. The car line is designated exclusively for students arriving and departing directly by vehicle.
  • The bus loop is reserved exclusively for students departing by bus.

Our crossing guards are in place to help keep students and families safe. Please ensure that students use the designated, supervised crossings at all times.

Student safety remains our highest priority, and we greatly appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home. By working together, we can help ensure that every Westbrook Park student arrives at and departs from school safely each day.

Emergency Card Review & Updates

Emergency cards will be sent home with students this week. Please take a few minutes to carefully review all information on your child’s card. Please double- and triple-check phone numbers, emergency contacts, and your home address to ensure that everything is accurate and up to date.

Having current contact information for every student is especially important in the event of an emergency. If your phone number, address, or emergency contacts change at any point during the school year, please notify the school or your child’s teacher as soon as possible so that our records can be updated.

Please return the emergency card only if corrections need to be made. If all information is correct, you do not need to return the card.

All emergency cards requiring corrections must be returned no later than September 11.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us maintain a safe and successful start to the school year.

Arrival Update:

Please remember that during arrival time, parents and guardians will say goodbye to their children at the school doors. Students will enter through the doors independently, where our staff will be ready to greet them and help them safely make their way into their school arrival spaces (K-2 Cafeteria, and 3-5 Gym).

This procedure is in place for the safety and security of all of our students and staff and to help ensure a smooth and organized arrival each morning.

We truly appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and continued support in helping us keep our school community safe!

Homeroom and teacher assignments will be available through the Home Access Center (HAC) beginning August 27th. HAC is an important resource where families can view schedules, grades, attendance, and update contact information, including emergency contacts and email addresses. Please review and update your information before the start of school to ensure you receive all school and district communications. The District will email HAC login credentials on the day it opens. If you experience difficulties accessing your account, please email parentportal@upperdarbysd.org. Families who have forgotten their password will need to reset it using the password reset feature.

  • HAC Guide: HAC Parent Handbook

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

The safety of our students is our top priority. Please review the arrival and dismissal procedures below to help ensure a safe and efficient start and end to each school day.

Arrival Procedures

Students may arrive at school in one of three ways:

  • School Bus

  • Parent Drop-Off (Car Loop)

  • Walking

Students may enter the building beginning at 8:30 a.m. Bus riders and walkers should enter through the Main Entrance unless otherwise noted below.

School Bus

District buses will pick up and drop off students at their assigned bus stops. The bus loop at the front of the school is closed to all personal vehicles during arrival to ensure the safety of our students.

Parent Drop-Off (Car Loop)

The car loop is located on the Springfield Road side of the building.

  • Car line operates from 8:30–8:50 a.m.

  • Please pull forward as far as possible to keep traffic moving.

  • Staff members and Student Safeties will assist students in exiting vehicles safely.

  • After 8:50 a.m., parents must park, escort their child to the Main Office, and sign them in as late.

Walkers

Students arriving from the car loop side of the building should use the designated yellow walkway around the dumpster and enter through the cafeteria entrance. All other walkers should enter through the Main Entrance.

Morning Waiting Areas

  • AM Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2: Cafeteria

  • Grades 3, 4, and 5: Gymnasium

Dismissal Procedures

Students may leave school in one of three ways:

  • School Bus

  • Parent Pick-Up (Car Loop)

  • Walking (Dolphin Courtyard)

Please notify your child's teacher how your child will be dismissed. If your child's dismissal routine changes, send a written note to the homeroom teacher that morning. To help ensure a safe dismissal, we ask that families do not call the school during the day to make dismissal changes except in emergencies.

School Bus

Students riding the bus will be dismissed to their assigned buses. The bus loop is closed to personal vehicles during dismissal to maintain student safety.

Parent Pick-Up (Car Loop)

The car loop is located on the Springfield Road side of the school.

  • Please do not enter the car loop before 3:05 p.m.

  • Pull forward into both lanes as directed by staff.

  • Have your child watch for your vehicle and raise their hand when they see you.

  • Staff members will escort students safely to their vehicles.

  • Children must ride in the back seat in accordance with Pennsylvania child passenger safety laws.

  • Please remain in your vehicle and do not call your child across the car loop.

  • For everyone's safety, families should not park and walk through the car loop to pick up students.

Walkers

Students walking home with a parent or guardian will be dismissed to the Dolphin Courtyard, located on the side of the school.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in following these procedures. Working together helps ensure a safe, smooth, and successful arrival and dismissal for all Westbrook Park students.
