Negley Mission Statement
CAPTAIN CROWTHER'S CORNER
Ahoy Navigator Parents!
One more week before Winter Break!
Coronavirus Update: This week we had 6 confirmed positive cases of COVID at Negley.
Please be extra vigilant in monitoring your child(ren) in the mornings before coming to school. If they are having any type of symptom that is related to COVID, that is not normal for them, please keep them home, contact your teacher and Nurse Jill, and have them work virtually.
If we believe that your child has been in close contact with a positive case individual, we will contact you personally. If it does not impact your child, you will receive the general letter in the evening.
Here are the answers to questions that parents have had for us:
1. How long does my child have to be quarantined?
14 days
2. If we get tested and it's negative, can we come back if we've been quarantined?
No. You must stay out the 14 days.
3. My child has been quarantined, does that mean my other children must stay home too?
No. Your other children may come to school. HOWEVER - if your quarantined child begins to show symptoms, then please keep the siblings at home, notify the school, and begin the 14 day quarantine with them.
4. Do I need to get my quarantined child tested?
That is up to you. Usually, getting a COVID test too early, when symptoms aren't present, can lead to a negative test result. You could do it for peace of mind, but please continue to look for symptoms during quarantine, even if the test was negative. We have had some asymptomatic students test positive; however, these individuals were around others who had symptoms and received a positive test result! Trust your gut - if you believe you need to get tested, do so!
5. What does my quarantined child do about their schoolwork while they are out?
Your teacher will be in contact with you concerning assignments. Please see the "Student Absence Information" section below.
6. What should I do if my child tests positive during the Winter Break?
Please email Nurse Jill! If it is up to 48 hours after our last day, we will need to do an investigation for close contact and then notify those families that their student was exposed to an individual who has had a positive COVID test.
Thank you to our in person parents for following all district Covid policies to help keep our students and staff well during this time.
Here's to another great week at Negley!

Important Student Absence Information! Please read and register your child in Schoology
With this year being a little different than any before, we are constantly trying to improve our procedures to make things as simple as possible for you and your student(s). That being said, we have come up with a new way to ensure that your student gets attendance credit for any day that they miss school, but are at home still working!
In Schoology, your student will need to go to “Courses”, listed at the top of the page, and click on “NES ATTENDANCE”. From there, click on their grade, and then open the pdf. Doing this will ensure that your student gets attendance credit for that day. Please be aware that if your student it out multiple days, you will need to follow this process DAILY. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Kaci at the front desk, 512-268-8501, and/or email nes.attendance@hayscisd.net.
We know rest is best when your student is not feeling well, so if your student is not up to doing any work due to illness, please be sure to email nes.attendance@hayscisd.net so we can code the absence correctly!

Daily Health Checks
TEMPERATURE CHECK
*Asking your child how they are feeling
*Look at their face and eyes! This is the FIRST thing we look at when a child is sent to the nurse. Their little eyes will tell you how they are feeling way before symptoms often begin.
If they do not feel well, PLEASE do not send them to school. They can meet with their teacher virtually. If they feel better later in the morning, bring them on in!
Character Trait for the month is Kindness
All students with a blackout will be in a drawing. The winner will choose a friend and they will have a "snowball fight" with Mrs. Crowther and Mrs. Lumbreras.

Library News from Ms. Tierney
Library Reminders:
- Lots of great reading resources can be found on the library website, including digital books and digital learning tools. Click here for the website.
- If you have overdue books from last school year, please send those back ASAP.
- Library is now on a six day, A-F rotation, meaning it will fall on a different day of the week each week (unlike the first 9 weeks when it was on a specific day, M-F consistently).
- To help you and your child remember his/her library book(s) each week, I will send an email reminder the night before his/her library day. NOTE: It’s just a reminder, if your child is NOT done with the book, he/she can renew it without bringing the book(s) back in under he/she is done with it.
- VIRTUAL LEARNERS: I will continue to have Curbside Library on Mondays and Fridays but I will only be outside to come to deliver to your car on Friday afternoons from 3:30-4:30. If you come to pick up on Mondays, you will need to come into the entranceway of the school to take the books (clearly labeled with student’s name) off the cart marked, “Curbside Library Pick-Up”.
- Gator Reader Program, a program that encourages students to read with their parents often. The goal is to read 100 books together over the course of the year. Once your kindergartener finishes one sheet, he/she will turn it in, get a small prize and get a new recording sheet. When they complete all 4 sheets, they will have read 100 books and receive the official GATOR READER T-shirt! Here is a link to the letter and recording log.
You can always email me if you have any questions, Colleen.Tierney@hayscisd.net.

Nuggets from Nurse Jill
Hello Navigators and Parents!
Due to the pandemic and maintaining student, teacher and staff safety we are required by the district and TEA to stick to strict policy and procedures regarding when an ill student can return to campus.
Our goal is to get students back to campus as quickly and as safely as possible. When your student is kept home for illness or is sent home from the school, there are 3 options to choose from to return to campus.
Pick ONE option:
- 10 days self-isolation since symptoms began AND improvement in symptoms AND 24 hours fever free (without the use of fever reducing medication) *ALL 3 must be met with this option.
- The student is cleared by a physician to return to school with an alternate diagnosis listed on the doctor’s note OR a statement explaining they have no concern for COVID. Also, symptoms must be improved or resolved for 24 hours.
- The student has had a negative PCR test result indicating symptoms were not due to COVID-19. A rapid antigen test will NOT be accepted. Also, symptoms must be improved or resolved for 24 hours.
Curative is offering FREE COVID testing. This is a mouth swab test that the district is accepting results from for return to school. See the flyer here for locations and to schedule an appointment.
Because Hays County is considered to be an area of high-community spread, parents must ensure they do not send a child to campus if the child has any ONE of the following COVID-19 symptoms:
* Temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth
* Sore throat
* Congestion or runny nose
* New, uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing or for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline.
* Diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, or abdominal pain
* New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
* New loss of taste or smell
* New onset of fatigue or muscle/body aches
If your child has any one of the above symptoms, is lab-confirmed with COVID-19 OR has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results, do not send him/her to campus and contact me. Please also do not send your child to school if a household member has tested positive or is awaiting COVID-19 test results.
Campus nurses are your point of contact for all things related to COVID so please reach out if you have questions.

TRANSPORTATION TAGS
ALL FAMILIES WILL NEED A TRANSPORTATION TAG IF THEY WILL BE PICKING UP THEIR CHILD FROM CAMPUS.
These tags are super important for picking up your child at dismissal. Each family has a distinct number - it is your family number. Instead of calling out your child's name for all to hear, we call your family number. Each family will receive 2 cards and 3 round discs that need to be attached to your child's backpack. If you need extras for another adult that may be picking up your child , just let our Receptionist, Ms. Goodman know when she gives you your original. There will be a $1.00 charge for extra cards OR to replace a lost card after this initial pick up. This fee is to help us with replacement materials. So - the first ones are FREE, but later on there will be the small charge.
PLEASE EMAIL MS. GOODMAN TO SCHEDULE A TIME TO PICK UP YOUR TRANSPORTATION TAGS or STOP BY THE RECEPTION AREA.
If you are picking up your child in the car rider line, these tags can hang from your passenger side visor using a rubber band or from your rearview mirror. It makes it easy for us to see and call your number. If you do not have your car tag, you will be asked to drive to the front office and present your ID in order to pick up your child.
If you are walking to the school to pick up your child, you will need to show your tag to your child's teacher OR the teacher on duty. They will check the number on the card with the tag attached to your child's backpack before releasing your student to you.
