From Farmer Riegel:

Where do cows sleep?
Cows sleep in big barns that we keep warm and dry in the winter, and nice and cool in the summer. Some barns have open stalls so cows can choose their own beds. While some people think cows sleep standing up, they don't. Just like you, they lie down to sleep. We fluff their beds every day to keep them soft so the cows are comfortable and happy.

Do cows take baths?
Some cows take a shower (or even two of them!) every day so they stay pretty clean. Before being milked, cows wait in a wash pen where sprinklers wash them. This makes sure that they are nice and clean before getting milked.

Why do cows moo?
Mooing is the way cows talk. Sometimes they moo because they are curious, want to play, are hungry, or want to be milked. A cow communicates by mooing.

I know you're eager for an update on Patches, too. She is now 3 months old, weighs 200 pounds, and is growing bigger by the day. She enjoys sweet grain, which helps her grow healthy and strong.

Dairy farming is a lot of work and a lot of fun. I hope your class will have fun with the dairy activities below.

Inclement Weather Inclement Weather

Temperatures are falling and with that comes wintery weather. The Meramec Valley R-III School District recognizes the challenges that result from school being canceled due to inclement weather. As such, we want to share some information to keep you informed about our district's procedures for school closings and delays due to weather.

In the case of inclement weather:

  1. The district administration will make a decision as soon as they can. In general, school officials will not cancel school based on a forecast. However, there are occasional instances where decisions could be made when inclement weather appears to be inevitable.

  2. When possible, the decision to cancel school may be made the night before, usually by 9:00 pm. However, in most situations, a decision isn’t made until the following morning. An early morning decision is typically made by 5:00 a.m. A decision to cancel school will be shared in the following ways: automated phone call, email, text notification through our mobile app, district social media sites, and local news television stations.

  3. The district has a 2-hour late start option. This option would generally be used if the weather forecast indicates the conditions present in the early morning hours will be temporary and improved weather/temperatures are expected.

As we look ahead, we ask that all parents:

  1. Create a plan for unexpected school closures and share the plan with your student. School cancellations due to weather are unavoidable and will happen at some point.

  2. Please watch our district website, mobile app, and social media pages for information related to school closures. We will post periodic updates about the decision making process. We will not respond to questions submitted on social media asking if we plan to have school.

  3. Recognize that snow itself rarely closes school. Snow in the forecast is not our primary concern. Rather, safety, visibility, road conditions, ice build-up, and the status of plowing are more important issues to consider. In addition, the capability of our staff to safely travel to school and for our maintenance department to clear sidewalks and parking lots have a large impact on our ability to have school.

As always, the highest priority for our district is the safety of our students and staff, for whom we will always err on the side of caution.

Thank You Thank You

Thank You, Franklin County Police Department!
I want to take a moment to thank the Franklin County Police Department for their continued support, presence, and dedication to keeping our school safe. I truly appreciate their partnership and all they do to protect our students, staff, and community each day!

Arrival and Dismissal- Safety Reminder Arrival and Dismissal- Safety Reminder

For the safety of all our families, please make sure to use the parking lot off 3rd Street as the entrance when dropping off or picking up your child. Do not use the school’s main parking lot to drive around to the back for drop-off or pick-up. This helps keep traffic moving smoothly and ensures everyone stays safe. Thank you for your cooperation!

Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn, grow, and succeed! Consistent attendance helps children build strong learning habits, keep up with lessons, and feel connected to their classmates and teachers. When students miss school, even a few days, it can be hard to catch up. Please help your child build good attendance habits by arriving on time and attending school every day, unless they are sick. Together, we can support their success!

Character Corner Character Corner

At Robertsville, we’ve been talking about what service means —doing something kind and helpful for others without expecting anything in return. When we serve others, we strengthen our school and community by showing kindness, responsibility, and teamwork.

💬 How Students Can Show Service at School

✅ Helping a classmate
✅ Keeping shared spaces clean
✅ Volunteering for classroom jobs
✅ Showing appreciation to teachers and staff

🏠 How Families Can Help at Home

💙 Encourage your child to:

  • Do chores without being asked
  • Help a sibling with homework
  • Find ways to give back to neighbors or family members

Together, let’s encourage our students to look for opportunities—big or small—to make a positive difference. Acts of service remind us that everyone has the power to help and lead with kindness!

Thank you for continuing to model and encourage this important value at home.
