Week of August21-25 Parent LetterHD Hilley Elementary 2023-24 School Year

Fourth Week of School

Amazing HD Hilley Parents, we are finally on our fourth week of school! Our first month of school is almost over. It has been a truly amazing four weeks of school! Our HD Hilley Energy Bus is on the Road to Success! Thank you for your on going support ensuring you continue communicating with your scholar's teacher. Communication is Key! This week, your scholar's first round of progress reports will be available on Skyward. Any questions, please reach out to your teacher or the front office 915-937-8400. Our Attendance Goal is still 98% daily at HD Hilley. Please work with your scholars to be in school and on time everyday. Our campus annual school rating does contain our overall yearly attendance. Help our campus get that high rating. If your scholar needs to be absent due to illness, always send a note to school or leave in the front office. If your scholar is not in class by 7:45, they are tardy. Please park and walk your scholar to the office if they are tardy so that you may sign them in. If your scholar starts with frequent tardies, they will start serving lunch detention until their tardies improve to none. Please bring them on time. This past week, we did have our first Walking Wednesday. This will be once a month for the Fall during the scheduled PE time. PE times are slightly different on Wednesday due to teacher meetings. Please remember to stay with your scholars as they walk. No scholar is allowed in the jungle gym area. PK Aides will support any parents with PK scholars especially if they need to use the restroom. Our next Walking Wednesday will be September 13.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE SIGNED UP FOR THE YEAR WITH YOUR SCHOLAR'S TEACHER. THIS IS WHERE OUR SCHOOL AND TEACHERS COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS.

Lunch/Cafeteria

We have started a cafeteria initiative to support scholar behavior. Dining with Dignity is our focus where our scholars are walking safely in the cafeteria, raising their hand, using inside voices, no running, and respecting each others space where they are eating. If the scholars receive the Maximum Mustang Points every day, they will have extended lunch on Mondays with 10 minutes more to eat and play. This also includes their teacher. We are practicing our 4 B's at HD Hilley.

CHATTING WITH THE PRINCIPAL

My name is Darlene Hernandez, HD Hilley Principal. This is my second year as your principal at this amazing campus. I have 25 years in education. I taught for 7 years in the Dallas/Fort Worth as a bilingual teacher. I returned back to El Paso and taught in Ysleta ISD for 8 more years as a Dual Language Teacher. I was promoted as a campus/district instructional coach for two of those years in Ysleta ISD as well. I started my administrative journey in Socorro ISD as an assistant principal at Chester Jordan Elementary for four years and Sgt. Jose Carrasco Elementary for four more years where I was the original team who opened that new school in 2018. As I reach my 10th year as an administrator in Socorro ISD, I am extremely grateful and proud to continue serving this amazing community at HD Hilley Elementary. I want your scholars to be successful in all their learning. We have the golden ticket with our dedicated and very experienced team of teachers. Our school culture is the utmost important item to me because it supports both a positive teaching and learning environment that a success school needs to have each year. It is important to me to maintain positive and transparent relationships with our staff and parents. Safety is a huge part of HD Hilley's Mission this school year. All our school staff and scholars have a right to feel safe in this learning environment. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to serve this amazing HD Hilley Community. I look forward to many more years as a Mustang.

Please join me with Chatting with the Principal (Coffee with the Principal) on August 31 at two different times 8:00 and 3:30 in our outside Annex Building - Mustang Corral. We will have some snacks for you as we get to know each other and look ahead for a great year. Our superintendent might also be joining us at one of those two meetings. If you attend, your scholar will receive a free dress coupon. Please give an opportunity to meet you. Bring all your neighbors and friends in this community who have children or grandchildren at HD Hilley. See you there!

THANK YOU PARENTS FOR SUPPORTING OUR PETER PIPER NIGHT!

Our fundraisers this year will support both our scholars and teachers. We purchase prizes for scholars weekly, treats, materials, teacher incentives, school program materials, teacher tools, and much more! We also trying to purchase a new pop corn machine, umbrellas for our lunch patio, and hopefully a new marquee. Thank you so much for supporting all our fundraisers!
