Hilltop Happenings
Top Dogs!

From Stefi From Stefi

Hello Team! This is a new Smore newsletter for teachers that will be sent out each Friday with information from admin. We are hoping to cut down on emails and information sent out to you during the week into one weekly "repository" of information that you can refer to as needed. We will keep a running tab at the end of the Smore of all past weekly newsletters for your reference. The weekly Hilltop Happenings is also linked on the button above.

The Sport Court damage was caused by the landscapers driving over the court with their equipment! We are working on getting it repaired this weekend so hopefully it is ready for play on Monday morning! Thank you for your help today!

Great News!

The PTO has purchased a new poster printer for Summit Hill! It is located in the media center where the old one was. The old one still prints in black and white. Please use it for black and white posters. It is in the teacher workroom.

Reminders:

  • Please do not send students to the clinic between 11:00-12:00 unless it is absolutely necessary. IF a student bumps their head, this IS considered an emergency, and they need to be seen in the clinic. If a student is sick and throwing up or is stung by a yellowjacket, students should also be sent to the clinic. Also, please review which students are allergic to stings and have epi pens. Thank your help as we navigate our students with severe medical diagnoses.
  • Curriculum Night is next week! Please ensure you have sent your PPT presentation to your grade level admin. We are here to support and help you!
  • Please go into the TKES platform by August 31 to complete your TKES online Orientation, then your Self Assessment. You get to this platform through Infinite Campus/Ga Doe/SLDS. If you need any help, please reach out!
  • We will be meeting for a preconference in a couple of weeks to input our Professional Learning Goal or Plan.
  • FCS Annual Required Trainings are due August 31.You can access a course overview (with instructions) and course link from this page within the Professional Learning internal hub: SY26-27 Annual Required Trainings.

i-Ready Inform

As outlined in the Fulton County Schools Assessment Calendar, all students in kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in the i-Ready Inform Reading and Mathematics assessments during the coming weeks.

What is i-Ready Inform?
i-Ready Inform, previously known as the i-Ready Diagnostic, is a computer-adaptive assessment that measures student skills in Reading and Mathematics. The assessment serves as a universal screener and provides valuable information about each student's current academic performance. Results help identify students' strengths and areas for growth, allowing schools to provide appropriate instructional support and interventions when needed.

Please note that i-Ready Inform scores are not entered as grades and are used solely to inform instruction and support student learning.

The i-Ready Inform assessment is administered up to three times each school year. The beginning dates for the Fall administration at Summit Hill Elementary School are as follows:

Reading Assessment

  • Grades 3-5: Monday, August 10
  • Grades K-2: Tuesday, August 11

Mathematics Assessment

  • Grades 3-5: Monday, August 17
  • Grades K-2: Tuesday, August 18

To help families better understand the purpose and structure of the assessment, please review the resources below:

  • •i-Ready Family Guide (English)
  • •i-Ready Family Guide (Spanish)

Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child's academic growth. If you have any questions about i-Ready Inform or your child's results, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or the school.

Sincerely,
Camille D. Santos
Assistant Principal & School Test Coordinator

Kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade, 5th grade will meet in my office during planning on Wednesday. We will be discussing lesson plans for August 17-21st. Please bring your folders from out preplanning meeting, computers, and TEs!

Literacy Flow Chart

As we are completing assessments (iReady and Amira) please keep the literacy flow chart in mind when reviewing the data! We need to be focusing on students scoring below 30th percentile on iReady and students scoring yellow or red on Amira.

Curriculum Chats

2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade will meet in my office during planning on Wednesday. We will discuss small/skills group expectations and discuss the planning process for math.

New Procedure for Unit Study Guides

Starting this school year, we will be sending home RELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science unit study guides at the beginning of each unit. The purpose of a unit study guide is twofold:

  • informing families of the content about to be learned at the beginning of each unit, and

  • providing a resource for families to support learning at home.

A study guide is not a student assignment to be done independently or in class. For the first unit, the resources have been created by your Support Team and gathered for you in your Teams channel (Math/RELA/SCI/SS folder - Study Guides or Family Letters folder - Unit folder). Please follow the guidance below for each content area.

MATH

K-1: Send home ONLY the Family Letter for each unit. 1st grade please note the differences for ADV and ON.

2-6: Send home the Family Letter as well as the study guide. Please note the difference for ADV and ON. Also, please communicate to parents about the weekly progression of teaching that correlates with the questions on the study guide. Staying on pace with the FCS planner is important since this progression will support the study-guide practice at home.

2nd: Week 1 problems 1-10, Week 2 problems 11-2, Week 3 problem 13, Week 4 problems 14-20, Week 5 problems 21-22. (Please double check with Ms. Taylor as we edited this study guide and this progression may have changed.)

3rd: Week 1 problems 1-5, Week 2 problems 6-7, Week 3 problems 8-13

4th: Week 1 problems 1-5, Week 2 problems 6-8, Week 3 problems 9-14, Week 4 problem 15

5th: Week 1 problems1-6, Week 2 problems 7-11

6th: Week 1 problems 1-5, Week 2 problems 6-7, Week 3 problem 8, Week 4 problems 9-10

RELA

K-3: Phonics Family Letter

3-5: Send home study guides that include vocabulary and unit concepts.

Social Studies/Science

K-2: Send home family letters from the resources with modifications as needed to correlate with the unit planners.

3-5: Send home study guides that include vocabulary and unit concepts. Relevant diagrams for the unit should be highlighted to help solidify concepts being taught in class
