Halloween At IMS
“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”
— Maya Angelou
Middle school is a key developmental period when the pressure to conform and blend in with peers is especially strong. At Ipswich Middle School, our goal is to build an environment where students feel safe stepping out of that comfort zone to express their true selves. Events like our annual Halloween celebration give our community a chance to do just that. From clever concepts to favorite characters, our students and staff brought incredible creativity to school proving just how amazing it is to stand out - enjoy the pictures.
Grade 7 Probability Fair
Once again this year our 7th graders designed carnival style probability games and hosted their classmates for a carnival. During Ms. Schroeder's, Mr. Lorenz's, and Ms. Somers' Math classes students planned their games, brought in their supplies, and created the finished projects but not before using various methods to calculate the odds of winning. This is a yearly project that helped last year’s 7th graders score way above the state average on probability questions on the MCAS test; we are confident that this group of 7th graders will as well.

Teacher Appreciation
Previously the Appreciation Tapestry was presented to Ms. DeJoy. She now has the honor and responsibility to pass it on to the next recipient. She has chosen Mrs. Ogasapian. She writes, "I have chosen to pass the IMS tapestry on to our substitute librarian, Nancy Ogasapian. Nancy generously offered to fill in as our temporary school librarian at the start of the school year, and her dedication and effort has been remarkable. Since my classroom is connected to the library, I have had the opportunity to witness the tremendous work and long hours she has put into improving the library and making sure that the "right books" are put into students' hands. Any time faculty or students needed books that our school library doesn't own, Nancy drove to the public library on her own time and culled books from all over the North Shore. Frequently, Nancy has been one of the last to leave the building as she busily reorganizes and improves the library for the next day; Nancy has worked hard to make the library an inviting place where ALL students will be drawn in by books on display. It is clear that Nancy is passionate about literature and helping our students learn to love reading as she does. We will miss her in the library!"
