EDL (After-School) Updates EDL (After-School) Updates

EDL Update

We had a wonderful first week of EDL! Programming will continue every Monday and Wednesday that school is in session until May 20th from 3-5pm. If your student is enrolled in EDL they are able to look at their EDL schedule and transportation information on student campus. Please follow these slides for directions on accessing EDL schedules and transportation information on student campus.

NOTE: If your student athlete is also registered for EDL (to begin once the fall sports season ends) you will notice on infinite campus attendance they will be marked "absent from EDL" when they are at athletics. This absence is simply for EDL attendance records and does not impact students' school attendance record.

After-school EDL students walk to the cafeteria and sit at the table that has a sign with the name of their class on it. They also have the option to have snack which is provided free for all EDL students.

It is not too late to sign up for EDL! Use this link to sign up! (https://forms.gle/7JStJ7a1HPhe9fra7)

Fun FACS-Foods/Cooking

Thank you to everyone who signed up for cooking class. We have a lively group of over 70 students across 2 classes and growing requests. The first week was great, filled with Kitchen Know-How, Cooking Etiquette, Safety Routines and plans for what's to come. This coming week we will officially start preparing food in class.

Our cooking class is new to Hidden River this year, starting completely from scratch with no materials.

Tremendous THANKS to everyone showing love to our class through words of encouragement and donations of cooking supplies. Thank Sooo You.

If you would like to support our class, we would greatly appreciate your help with the following items...

  • Grocery store gift cards

This is our biggest request to support our weekly fresh food needs.

  • Paper Plates and bowls

  • Plastic eating utensils (spoons and forks)

  • Bakery Piping Bags

  • Portion cups (3-4 oz size)

Thank you,

~Ms. Barbie

Otter Athletics,

We are heading into the final two weeks of our fall sports season! I want to thank all of our athletes, coaches, and families for your support, hard work, and commitment throughout the season. It has been great seeing our students grow, build friendships, and represent our school.

As we wrap up fall sports, let’s finish strong! Please continue encouraging your athletes to attend practices, give their best effort, and show good sportsmanship through the end of the season.

Looking Ahead: Girls Basketball & Co-Ed Wrestling Register by Nov 5th

We are excited to get our winter sports season started! Girls basketball and co-ed wrestling will begin soon. Please make sure your student is registered and has an up-to-date sports physical on file before participating. To sign up for the Mon/Wed bus, please complete the EDL Transportation Form.

Families can find Registration Link (Sports Physical Form), schedules, and coaches contact information on Bound. We encourage everyone to download the Bound app, as it has been working better for families than the website.

Thank you for being part of our middle school athletics community! Your support makes a difference, and we look forward to finishing fall sports strong and welcoming our winter athletes soon.

*Grade check during 3rd hr; students with an “N” will be benched for this week's games but are expected to attend the game and cheer their team on.

Nell (lenell.binford@spps.org) and Katrina (katrina.haukom@spps.org)

Physical Education Department

As temperatures feel more like Fall, students should come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. Physical Education classes will continue to be held outdoors whenever possible, so please make sure your student has a warm coat, appropriate footwear, and any other cold-weather gear needed to be comfortable outside.

Teacher Fischer

This week, Hidden River's band and orchestra programs hosted an engaging family music night that put students in the role of teachers. Families participated in hands-on activities that mirrored what students learn in class, including instrument setup, posture and breathing techniques, and learning basic notes and songs. Students even led their families through the process of playing their first tune, creating a parent band by the end of the evening. The event gave families a firsthand look at classroom learning, helped build connections among parents, and provided students with a fun opportunity to showcase their skills and confidence as music leaders.

School Attendance Matters! School Attendance Matters!

Request an Absence Flyer - Click for more information
open_in_new zoom_out_map

Regular school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success. When students attend school every day, they build important academic skills, stay connected to their teachers and classmates, and develop routines that support learning and well-being.

Even missing a few days each month can make it harder for students to keep up with classwork, participate in discussions, and feel connected to the school community. Consistent attendance helps students gain confidence, strengthen friendships, and take advantage of all the opportunities school has to offer.

We know that illnesses, appointments, and unexpected situations sometimes occur. When possible, we encourage families to schedule appointments outside of school hours and to communicate with the school if attendance challenges arise. We are here to partner with families to support every student's success. Parents and Guardians can now use the online Absence Request tool in Infinite Campus to inform the school in advance when their student(s) is not going to be in school.

Check out this step-by-step guide or the video here to learn more!

Every day matters. Being present, engaged, and ready to learn helps students make the most of their educational experience.
