CTE Skills USA: Conference and Competition
Rowland High School’s very own Wan Ling Li represented her school and district with esteemed grace and professionalism as one of the state officers who took the stage before thousands of attendees.
The 2026 conference, featuring over 120 competitive events, will be held April 9–12 at the Ontario Convention Center, showcasing top CTE students from across California
Rowland High School’s SkillsUSA Engineering and Architecture Chapter proudly earned the Chapter of Excellence Gold Status for the first time in school history. This award highlights our leadership, student engagement, and program excellence.
At the 2026 state conference, our students shone. This was the largest group representing Rowland High School: 62 students and 5 advisors attended. Among them, 12 were voting delegates, and 50 Competitors.
The Gold medal team in Interactive Video Game Design consisted of veteran senior Alice Chen and newcomer senior Derek Zhao.
Senior Trevor Lin, in his first competition, won Silver in Criminal Justice.
Sophomore Edwin Garcia earned Bronze in Architectural Design.
Returning veteran junior Brandin Levario took Bronze in Technical Design.
In Additive Manufacturing, veteran senior Christian Castillo and newcomer junior Nicholas Leong earned Bronze.
Newcomer sophomore Wendy Wang earned Silver in Related Technical Math.
With about 275 members, these successes underscore our culture of growth and mentorship. In addition, senior Wan Ling Lin completed her term as state officer. Ms. Orozco, who supported Wan Ling throughout the year as a dedicated chaperone, also played an active role in our chapter’s activities. At the state level, she took on additional responsibility as a SkillsUSA Student Leadership Trainer Assistant, demonstrating her commitment both to our students and to SkillsUSA leadership development. These accomplishments reflect Rowland High School’s commitment to its motto: Every Student, Every Day. We empower all students, every single day, to achieve their potential.
Special thanks to Duane Cabot, Michael Frausto, Ed Martin, Edwin Gomez, and John Kim for supporting students in preparation and during the competition.
CTE FBLA Competition
John A. Rowland High School proudly participated in this year’s FBLA State Leadership Conference, a premier event that brings together thousands of students from across California for leadership development, career exploration, and statewide competition.
Our students represented Rowland High School with professionalism, dedication, and school pride throughout the multi-day conference. Competing in a variety of individual and team events, they demonstrated strong preparation and commitment to excellence.
We are especially proud to recognize the following top placements:
Shia Wong — 2nd Place, Human Resource Management
Michael Lee, Jaysen Mathew, and Joshua Salazar — 7th Place, Banking & Financial Systems
Leah Ng — 8th Place, Agribusiness
Ethan Cheng, Avery Chu, and Cara Chu — 8th Place, Sports & Entertainment Management
In addition to these achievements, many of our students earned strong scores in highly competitive events, gaining valuable experience and continuing to build their leadership and career skills.
We congratulate all of our FBLA members for their hard work and dedication. Their efforts reflect the strength of our Business Department and the opportunities available through Career Technical Education at Rowland High School.
We look forward to continuing to support our students as they grow, compete, and achieve even greater success in the future.
CJ Carrillo - Football MVP of the Gano League
CJ's football career began at Rowland High School as a member of the Rowland youth football program. This experience set him up to have a stellar high school career that resulted in being named Most Valuable Player of the Gano League in football and being an all league player in baseball. CJ not only excelled on the football field and the baseball diamond but he also excelled on campus, as a member of Rowland High School's ASB program and a student in Advanced Placement Classes. These accomplishments put him in position to receive an offer to continue his athletic career on the football field at the prestigious Azusa Pacific University. The Rowland School District Family looks forward to seeing CJ add to his accomplishment in and outside of the classroom in this next season of life.
Breaking Records at Mt. SAC Spring Invitational: Karen and Kyle Make History
Karen Prawira delivered an outstanding performance at the Mt. SAC Spring Invitational, earning first place and setting a new meet record. Her achievement breaks a long-standing mark previously set by RHS Hall of Famer Kylie Garcia in 2010 and later matched by fellow Hall of Famer Katelyn Nguyen in 2016, making this a historic moment for the program.
Adding to the team’s success, Kyle Tsuei also made headlines by surpassing his own record set last year, demonstrating continued growth and excellence. These accomplishments highlight the dedication and talent of our athletes as they continue to raise the standard for Rowland High School.
