Patriot Peek at the Week News

Week of January 23rd-27th

Patriot Peek atthe Week NewsWeek of January 23rd-27th

Dear Wolf Ridge Students and Families,

We have been learning so much in 2023 already! As I walked the halls and visited classrooms this morning, students and teachers were already busy learning and engaged as soon as our school day began. As principal, I couldn't be prouder of the dedication of our staff and students as we transition to second semester. Keep up the great work!

Our junior high students enjoyed a pep assembly yesterday that was Hawaiian themed to introduce our volleyball and scholastic bowl teams. There will also be a special pep rally at BHHS for all 6th-12th grade students on Monday, January 23rd. We are increasing our school spirit at BHCUSD8. PK-5 students will have an assembly this coming Friday, January 27th to celebrate our Patriot Pride Award Winners and introduce our next Character Trait of the Month for February. This will also be a Pajama Day for the entire school. See below for more information about events happening this coming week.

Rest up and enjoy your weekend. We are gearing up for another great week!

CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH: RESILIENCE CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH: RESILIENCE

A Message from Ms. Manar A Message from Ms. Manar

In grades, K-5, we have been working hard on understanding the character trait of the month, Resilience. In second grade, we read the book Sergio Sees the Good: A Story of One Not So Bad Day. We talked about how sometimes we put more focus on the bad things that happen in our day and how that makes it easier for us to get discouraged or give up. By shifting our mindset to focus also on the positive things that happened, we can use resilience to try our best and not give up. After we read the book, we did an activity in partners where each student shared their day with another student and listed each bad or good thing that happened. They used beans to make a pile of each bad and good event. When they finished they were able to count the beans and see if they had a bad day or a good day. Unanimously they each found that while bad things had happened during their day, ultimately the good things won! This is an easy activity to do with your child if they feel like they are having a hard time and need a reminder that there are good things happening too. I won't lie, it was helpful for this adult too!

PATRIOT PRIDE ROCKS! PATRIOT PRIDE ROCKS!

Prescott the Patriot Mascot has been hiding Patriot Rocks in our school. The class/student that finds it obviously has great Patriot pride and totally rocks! Each Monday, that class will then hide the rock in a new location on "Move-It Monday". Just a little something to encourage Patriot pride at our school. Be on the look out soon for Patriot Pride Rocks out in the community.

5 Essential Survey Opens January 24th 5 Essential Survey Opens January 24th

Please give us valuable feedback by completing the 5Essentials Survey.

A parent survey report will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey. While the parent data will not be made public, the parent report will be made available to Principal Ronen and Superintendent Dugan and will enable them to make considerations based on the responses given BHCUSD8 parents. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Again, your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential.

Teachers and 4th through 12th graders throughout Illinois are taking the teacher and student 5Essentials Survey. School-level 5Essentials Reports will be generated if teachers and/or students meet their 50 percent response-rate thresholds. These research-based reports will be sent to schools and districts in March and will also be included in the State School Report Card, released statewide in the fall.

Please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ to take the parent survey starting January 24th.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact UChicago Impact Customer Support at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
