Blazer Bulletin for October 10-13

Dear Trail Blazer Community
I hope that you got to enjoy some time outside with the nice weather we had this weekend. Please take some time to read the newsletter to stay informed of all things happening on the Trail.
End of the first grading period-October 13
We are coming up to the end of the first nine weeks of the school year. Students, please make sure that you are aware of all of your upcoming deadlines for coursework as the last day for coursework this quarter is next Friday, October 13th.
Students please ensure that you are utilizing ALL remediation opportunities, seeking out your teachers for help, and maximizing tutorials during Mega Lunch.
The end of the first quarter is also the next UIL eligibility check where UIL eligibility can be regained if students are now passing all of their classes and UIL eligibility can also be lost at this check. For any UIL eligibility questions, please reach out to your coach/sponsor.
Gold Cards for Senior Citizens
The Gold Card allows those who are age 60 and older and live within the FISD enrollment boundaries to get free admission to most District athletic and fine arts events. The 2023-24 Gold Cards can be picked up at the FISD Athletic Office (7210 Stadium Lane). A picture ID with a home address must be shown in order to receive a Gold Card. More information is available here.
Fentanyl Awareness Month
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about the dangers of fentanyl during October’s Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 50-100 times more potent than morphine, often lethal with as little as 2 milligrams. Drug traffickers disguise pills to look like legitimate prescription drugs, even candy, to target children.

Extracurricular Activities
It is so great to see our students out supporting each other at extracurricular events. Just a reminder that as these are school sponsored events, the FISD dress code is still in place. While we love the participation of our students in designated spirit themes, please remember that these still must meet dress code standards. If there is an issue that must be addressed by the campus administration that we are unable to find a solution for, a student may be asked to leave the event. Also, a reminder that for athletic events, students must remain on the designated home or visitor side for the entire duration of the event. Students will be directed back to the designated side if determined to be in the wrong location or trying to cross over by campus administration. Students who disregard this direction by administrators may be asked to leave the event as per the FISD Student Code of Conduct.
