Lunch Visitors - SIGN UP REQUIRED

Lunch visitors have begun on campus and we have enjoyed seeing families have a meal with their students!

Please remember that sign ups are required in order to eat lunch on campus with your student. If the sign up for the grade level is full and a parent comes to eat lunch, unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate you that day. The sign up is linked below for quick access!

LUNCH VISITOR SIGN UP

As a reminder, we ask that parents visit 1-2 times per month to allow all interested visitors the opportunity to eat lunch with their student. You must bring an ID in order to be granted access to the building.

Finally, we ask that you do not park in the fire lane.

Student Meal Accounts & Meal Benefits 22-23

If your child is interested in purchasing breakfast and/or lunch during the school day, please set up a School Cafe account. Click here to set up or access a pre-existing School Cafe account for your student. For more information about FISD Child Nutrition, visit their webpage here.

Free and Reduced Application

Frisco ISD urges families who may qualify for meal benefits due to low family income to submit an application. In addition to free school meals, there are a number of additional benefits, detailed below, that students can receive when a family qualifies and shares their eligibility status. In addition, Frisco ISD receives additional state and federal funding for each student who qualifies for free or reduced-price meals. These funds provide extra academic support and resources to students and schools.

Parents are encouraged to complete the application online; however, if you prefer to complete a paper copy, you can access those files below. We will also have paper copies available during our Meet the Teacher Nights.

What is Title 1?

Many parents or community members have questions about what it means to be a Title 1 campus here at Rogers Elementary. We are fortunate to receive additional funding to directly support our students.

Principal Penny will be reviewing this slideshow on Sept. 15th @ 5:30 PM during the first PTA general meeting of the school year. We hope to see you there!

If you are unable to attend the first meeting option, Principal Penny will offer a second opportunity on September. 16th at 8:30 AM in the Rogers library.

5th Grade CogAT TESTING

On Tuesday, September 27th Rogers’ Fifth Graders will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). The test will be given over 1 day for approximately 2.5 hours (this time includes breaks). There will be no make-ups for this test, so please schedule morning appointments on days other than CogAT testing.

The CogAT test gives teachers and parents a snapshot of students’ higher level thinking, reasoning, and problem solving abilities (verbal, nonverbal, quantitative, and overall ability), as compared to other fifth graders in the nation. It is a local assessment and is not needed for promotion to 6th grade.

Please be sure your fifth grader has a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast on this day. Please encourage your child with a hug, a reminder to listen carefully the first time, and to do their “Personal Best” on the test.

Let’s Talk About It - Parent Event

September 28th @ Frisco ISD Admin Building

Mental Health Matters…..and our kids are already talking about it. Let’s make sure they are talking to us! Frisco ISD invites parents of any age student to join us as we hear from William Floyd, Board Member of the North Texas Chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Join us for this impactful discussion about mental health in our children and adolescents. The event will be offered in person and virtually, as well!

Outside Resources

Frisco ISD has many wonderful resources for families who might benefit from extra services and support. We offer free or reduced lunch/breakfast for your child, and we have organizations that can help if your child needs food at home, clothing, hygiene items, or school supplies. Each organization has a sign-up process, and I would be HAPPY to help you with this process if need be. Here is a link to my website where you can find information about these resources. Or you can email me at bocians@friscoisd.org.

September’s Character Trait: PURPOSE

Why does PURPOSE matter?

Having a purpose is good for both you and the world. It drives you to make positive

contributions in line with your own interests and strengths. And this pursuit gives your life direction and forward momentum; it motivates and guides your short-term goals and daily activities. With a strong sense of purpose, you flourish, you enjoy a more meaningful life, are healthier and more resilient to setbacks, live more energetically, and feel good about what you’ve accomplished.

How can I encourage PURPOSE in my child?

Model it. Engage in activities that connect to your own purpose, such as meaningful work, volunteering, or creating art—and invite young people to participate with you. Talk about your goals and why they are important to you: “I volunteer at the library because I think everyone should have free access to books and information."

Celebrate it. Praise and support actions that serve a larger purpose: “I love that you participated in the local cleanup day— picking up litter makes the town better for everyone.” Point out connections between activities and long-term goals: “It makes sense that you’ve joined the Girls Who Code club at school, since you’ve always been interested in computers and can now help teach younger kids.

Enable it. Encourage young people to talk about their values and the kind of person they want to be. What do they want to contribute to the world? Notice sparks of potential purpose in children’s interests and guide them toward opportunities to engage with them in meaningful and productive ways, such as volunteering or joining a club. No matter their age, children can be helpful to others.

Contribute to the Rogers PTA!

Joining the Rogers PTA is the best way you can financially support some extra special events and programs offered to the students throughout the year, including class parties, field day, house shirts, ninja run, diverse abilities day and staff appreciation just to name a few! Paying PTA membership dues helps support these things but does not mean you are required to volunteer. There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the year if you are available, and as a member of the PTA you will be the first to hear about them. We hope you will join us as we support our students and teachers with an extraordinary 2022-23 school year!
