Principal's Message From Dr. Otway
Leading with Excellence
Dear Tiger Families,
As August comes to a close, it’s time for us to lock in on learning! Over the past few weeks, students will began important assessments that allow us to understand their current levels and set a strong path forward.
-
Reading & Math Assessments – to measure student learning levels
-
Amira Testing – to screen for signs of dyslexia
-
Phonics Assessments – beginning in September
These tools allow teachers to tailor instruction, provide supports, and set high expectations for outcomes. Together, we are building a clear roadmap for student success.
We ask for your partnership by ensuring that your child:
✔️ Attends school daily and arrives on time
✔️ Is ready to learn with a positive mindset
✔️ Engages fully with their teacher and support team
With your support and collaboration, we will continue to see our Tigers soar! Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education and for working alongside us as we build a culture of high expectations and excellence.
With gratitude and partnership,
Dr. Maisha N. Otway
Principal, College Park Elementary School
Important Updates and Reminders
10 Day Count
Classroom Adjustments Following Fulton County Schools’ 10-Day Count
As part of Fulton County Schools’ 10-Day Count process, schools across the district review student enrollment after the first ten days to ensure balanced class sizes and the best possible learning environment for all students.
At College Park Elementary, this process will impact Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and 4th Grade. In each of these grade levels, we are over projection and will need to increase classes and reduce class sizes. To maintain safe and healthy class sizes, we will be adjusting student rosters.
This means that some students may experience a classroom change and be assigned a new teacher.
Our Transition Plan:
-
Parent Communication: Families of impacted students will be contacted directly by our Curriculum Support Teacher.
-
Student Communication: After parents are informed, our school counselor and classroom teachers will support students with this transition.
We know that after the first few weeks of establishing routines, a transition like this can feel challenging. Please know that our priority is to ensure every child learns in a safe, supportive, and productive environment. Our team is committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.
We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and trust as we make these adjustments. Thank you for your continued partnership in creating the best learning experience for our students.
2025-2026 Student Code of Conduct
Review the Fulton County Student Code of Conduct
Parents, please take a moment to review the Fulton County Schools Student Code of Conduct with your student(s). The student code of conduct outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and guidelines that help ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
All students ages 10 and older are required to sign the Parent/Student Acknowledgment Form after reviewing the handbook with a parent or guardian.
You can access the Student Code of Conduct in Infinite Campus. Click here for the steps on how to access The Student Code of Conduct.

Tag Referral Process
Fulton County screens all students for gifted services, following the GaDOE guidelines. Students may be referred for testing through automatic screening — based on high scores (90th percentile or higher on iReady or Level 4 on Georgia Milestones) — or through reported referrals from teachers, parents, or guardians. The gifted teacher reviews data to determine if additional testing is needed to confirm eligibility.

This dedicated time allows all scholars to build leadership skills, develop positive habits, and grow socially and emotionally. Rooted in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Leader in Me empowers students to take ownership of their learning and actions preparing them to lead both in school and in life.

Books to Kids, a program provided by Atlanta News First, is dedicated to promoting literacy by putting books directly into the hands of students and last year, they visited our school to deliver books and share the joy of reading with our students. Be on the look out for the interview around the first week of September.
A Special Thank You to Author Carlos Walker
Our school is grateful to author Carlos Walker for his generous donation of The Autobiography of a Butterfly. His gift will inspire and engage our students as they explore the journey within its pages. Thank you, Mr. Walker, for supporting our love of reading!
