A Message from Your Principal Team
Dear Washington Families,
Spring Break has come and gone, and it’s hard to believe we are now in the final stretch of the 2025–26 school year! We hope your family had time to rest, recharge, and enjoy meaningful moments together. This time of year always brings exciting growth, and we are proud of the hard work our students continue to show each day.
Thank you to all the families who participated in our Student-Led Conferences—we had an incredible turnout! Your involvement truly makes a difference. When students share their learning with you, it builds confidence and strengthens their sense of ownership. If you were unable to attend, we encourage you to connect with your child’s teacher to stay connected to their progress.
Looking ahead, our final round of spring MAP testing in reading and math is just around the corner for all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. This is an important opportunity for students to show the growth they’ve made throughout the year. You can support your child by helping them get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. A little encouragement goes a long way—remind them to stay positive and do their best!
As a quick reminder for families using the gym pick-up lane, please continue to pull forward as far as possible. This helps keep our dismissal process safe and efficient for everyone. Thank you for your teamwork in keeping things running smoothly.
We are grateful for your continued partnership and support. Let’s finish the school year strong and make these last months meaningful and memorable for all our students.
Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Alfredo Belanger, Principal
Antonio Ramos, Assistant Principal

Upcoming health lessons from The Great Body Shop
As part of our commitment to teaching students important skills for staying safe and healthy, our school provides age-appropriate, comprehensive, and inclusive instruction on topics such as personal safety, decision-making, healthy relationships, and setting boundaries. These lessons use materials from The Great Body Shop, an Oregon-adopted curriculum. If you would like to review these resources, visit The Great Body Shop website at https://www.thegreatbodyshop.net/.
If you do not wish for your child to participate, please complete and submit the Request for Student Exemption Form to your child’s teacher. A paper copy will be sent home this week. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher for more information.
Thank you for your partnership in creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students!
OSAS testing
Following our Spring Break, your 3rd -5th grade students will be taking the Oregon State Assessment in various contents. Testing is a regular part of learning and helps guide learning decisions at the system level and this is good practice to prepare for testing that you may experience in your in college and/or career journey. It allows you an opportunity to demonstrate what you know and can do in English language arts, math, and science. This can help shape what you focus on learning next.
Here are four of the many actions parents can do to make it a more positive experience.
1. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the test.
2. Feed your child a good breakfast. Research shows that children do better on tests if they have had a good breakfast.
3. When the scores are sent to you, talk to your child's teacher and/or principal. This will help you to understand them more clearly.
4. Reassure your child that no matter the outcome of the test you will still love him/her. Encourage them to simply do their best.
Every Day Matters
While we are in the last months of our school year, we need to continue to stress the importance of your student showing up to school. Here is a message from the Oregon Department of Education.
Your child's regular attendance in school encourages academic and social-emotional success. Together, families, educators, and community members can support a child's attendance and help each student stay on the path to success.
It doesn't matter whether the absences are excused or unexcused -- each missed day represents missed learning time. Missed days add up quickly: When a student misses as few as two days a month, that’s 10% of the school year. This increases the risk of academic and social-emotional struggles.
(2 absences a month x by nine months = 18 days/10% of missed school days in a school year.)
School + You = Success
Plan Ahead
Things don’t always go smoothly. Planning ahead can help be ready for issues with:
Transportation: Explore carpool, bus, safe walk/bike options.
After school pick-up and care: Have a back-up!

They haven’t thrown up or had diarrhea for 24 hours.
Community Survey for WSD District Plan (repeat)
As partners in the success of our students, your input is invaluable. We are in the process of revising our Strategic Plan and would love to hear from you. Please stop by at one of our locations during conferences.
Your voice is an essential part of this process.
We invite everyone in the community to take a few minutes to share their thoughts by completing this brief survey:
Woodburn School District Input Survey
In addition, families will have an opportunity to participate in focus groups during upcoming parent-teacher conferences, where we will gather feedback and ideas to help shape the future direction of our schools.
The Woodburn School District is a part of this community. The Strategic Plan is strongest when it reflects the voices, experiences, and hopes of the people who care deeply about our students.
Thank you for your continued partnership, your trust, and your commitment to the success of every Woodburn student.
