I hope everyone is enjoying their day off today!

Read-A-Thon concluded Wednesday night at midnight with our students reading over 200,000 total minutes and having fundraised over $30,000 for their school. Thank you so much for your willingness to participate by encouraging your child to read, logging their minutes, and posting your fundraising links on social media. Huge thank you to our PTA members who worked a number of late nights editing videos, tabulating figures, and providing our students with a positive experience. Shout out to our top readers who spent some time exploring the TISD Literacy Bus on Thursday, to our teachers who endured and to Mrs. Hendrix class who fundraised the most money per class and will be pie-ing Mrs. Baker and I in the face this upcoming week.

You may have seen the post on Facebook already, but I wanted to give an official welcome to Ms. Anna Murray as she moves down the hallway to start a new role as Dean of Students and a very special welcome to Mrs. Laura McHugh who will be taking over Ms. Murray's teaching position. Both of these individuals are incredible and we look forward to all they accomplish here at Owens.

This data will help us identify needs, create plans, and drive implementation for our campus Leader in Me initiative. We will be promoting this survey through the end of October. As the 1st 9 weeks comes to a close and report cards get sent out on Thursday, take this time to goal set with your students for ways they can incrementally improve in the 2nd 9 weeks--whether that be academically or behaviorally. Over the past two weeks the attendance percentages at Owens has moved from the ~97% range to the ~94% range. Our daily goal is 98% and students are incentivized by receiving additional recess minutes for 3 consecutive days at the 98% mark. We will be recognizing students with perfect attendance in the 1st 9 weeks during our first Convocation (awards ceremony) of the school year. Perfect attendance during the 2nd 9 weeks is a worthy goal to set that will undoubtedly support any academic or behavioral goals you have for your child.

I have started highlighting students who are being successful in their extra curriculars outside of school on the morning announcements. If you ever snap a video of your child doing something exceptional at sports, dance, gymnastics, music, church, or in the community please share it with me so I can highlight them for exemplifying the 7 Habits outside of school. Keep videos to under 30 seconds. You can submit it above in the blue "submit pictures of your students" button.
