We are already showing PAWS Expectations!

Hello Panther Parents,

Last Friday, we kicked off the school year with an exciting pep rally that brought our entire New Prospect & Alpharetta community together! With the incredible energy of the Alpharetta High School drumline, cheerleaders, and basketball players, we celebrated everything our students have been learning in their classrooms.

At New Prospect, we live by our PAWS expectations:
Pride, Attitude, Wise Choices, and Safety.

Every homeroom class participated (and is continuing this week) in a PAWS lesson to explore what these words mean and how to demonstrate them EVERYWHERE at New Prospect—from the classroom to the playground, and even on the bus! For example, today students learned how to show PAWS expectations while riding the bus safely and respectfully.

We also had some friendly house competitions, including house chants that brought out school spirit and teamwork. It was such a fun and meaningful way to build community and reinforce positive behavior! Please check out the 2 buttons below for the pictures that were taken!

To be successful, our behavior program needs to be a partnership between home and school. Throughout the school year the PBIS team will send updates and information about PBIS in this newsletter. We invite your comments, concerns and ideas to make PBIS work at our school.

You can support PBIS at New Prospect by:

  • Reviewing behavior expectations with your child
  • Using the four expectations at home
  • Providing positive reinforcement (rewarding good choices with compliments or quality time) at home
  • Sharing comments with or asking questions of PBIS team members

Ask your student what the PAWS Expectations mean and how many Paws Points they have earned 🐾

Please remember: learning how to behave is just as important as learning academics. Mistakes are part of the process, and with families and school staff working as a team, we can help every child thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Thank you for being our partners in this journey!

Screens away, go play

Every year, Mrs. Lemons and Mrs. Wilson read to every class to open up the school year. To the Kindergarteners we read Gingerbread Man on the Loose at the School (NPE tradition) but to every other class we introduced part of our Strong Body, Strong Mind theme and read the book Unplugged to re-enforce that screentime is ok sometimes, but playing outside can be more enjoyable and can also accomplish the same things you can do on a screen! Students were excited to learn about this and make goals for home under this theme!

Early Literacy and Dyslexia Screeners Early Literacy and Dyslexia Screeners

The state of Georgia has early literacy legislation aimed at improving reading skills among our young learners. We want to make sure you are fully informed about what this means for your child.

We want everyone to be aware of this legislation and what this means for your child. PLEASE read the letter below. In the folder are English, Korean, Hindi, Spanish and Chinese translations.

Please reach out to Mary French at frenchm@fultonschools.org if you have any questions!

The following guidelines will help ensure a smooth and efficient drop-off process and minimize disruptions of the school day.

Deliveries

Parents who wish to drop off items for students (lunch, textbook, birthday items etc.) must bring the item to the front office and leave the labeled item on the designated cart by the front door. Please have the item ready and labeled with the student/teacher’s name and grade level before arriving at the school. Labeling helps prevent mix-ups and ensures the item reaches the correct student. Lunches must be dropped by 10:15 A.M.

Communicate with your child/teacher. Let your child know in the morning that you will be dropping off their lunch and email the teacher to make her aware of the delivery. NPE prohibits outside food or drinks as it can disrupt the lunchroom environment.

Visitors

Visitors or guests for official business must check in with the Front Office (Check Mate). All visitors must have a valid driver’s license or ID at the door camera for entrance and again in the Front Office. Name badges/stickers will be issued and must be worn while in the building.

Carpool Reminders! Carpool Reminders!

If you drive your child to school....I wanted to make sure to remind you of a few things:

1. It is easier if you have them take the bus:).

2. If you have a reason for driving them, I understand BUT you must leave on time so your child gets here on time. We start accepting children into the school at 7:10 (no earlier) as there is not supervision. 80% of our carpool parents arrive between 7:30-7:40 which causes the round about to get backed up AND your child to be late. Not only will your child be marked tardy, but it will throw off their whole day as they walk into class all out of sorts. There are a lot of complaints and stress that can be fixed if you just leave 10 minutes earlier.

3. Speaking of round abouts.....if you don't know how to drive in one PLEASE watch the videos below for help!
