Future-Ready: Preparing Students for College, Career, and a Changing Workforce
At VCHS, we are committed to keeping our programs aligned with the ever-evolving landscape of the workforce, ensuring our students are prepared for success in both college and career. This March, we are excited to highlight our Switch electric vehicle program, where students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge automotive and clean energy technology. As industries shift toward sustainability and innovation, our goal is to provide real-world learning opportunities that equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for the jobs of the future. By embracing change and updating our programs, we are empowering students to take the next steps toward their careers with confidence and experience.

FFA Leader Maddie Davis Represents at State and National Levels
Maddie Davis, FFA Chapter President and Regional Vice President, is making the most of her senior year as she prepares for a career in Agricultural Business. In October, she was elected as a National Delegate at the FFA National Convention, where she collaborated with student leaders nationwide to shape the future of FFA.
In February, Maddie participated in the FFA State Leadership Experience (SLE), where she engaged in hands-on learning about government, agricultural policy, and leadership, including mock legislation and advocacy training.
Coming up on April 1st, Maddie will compete in the FFA State Finals Speech Competition and continue the election process for California FFA State Officer in Sacramento. We’re proud of her achievements and wish her the best!
Hands-On EV Learning at Valley Center High School
Valley Center High School’s Auto Shop, led by longtime instructor Mr. Bertram, is taking a bold step into the future with the introduction of the Switch Lab EV. This fully functional electric vehicle provides students with a hands-on, real-world learning experience, equipping them with the skills needed for careers in the growing EV industry.
Students will build, wire, diagnose, and program the Switch Lab EV while practicing high- and low-voltage safety procedures. This project-based learning approach enhances their understanding of EV components, troubleshooting, and battery management systems while reinforcing professional skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and time management. The program also prepares students for ASE xEV Level 1 & 2 certifications, making them workforce-ready.
Designed for cross-disciplinary learning, the Switch Lab EV integrates concepts from physics, chemistry, engineering, and CAD, supporting up to 15 students at a time. Its rebuildable design ensures future students will continue benefiting from this hands-on experience.
With safety as a top priority, the vehicle features an emergency battery disconnect, insulated frame, dual brake system, and steel roll cage. This innovative addition to our Auto Shop curriculum ensures students gain practical EV knowledge in a safe, engaging, and future-focused environment.
Valley Center High School is proud to provide students with this cutting-edge educational experience, preparing them for success in the evolving world of automotive technology!
