We are excited that you have chosen to school with us.

Upon enrolment, you indicated you may have an IEP.

🤷‍♀️What now?

We have received your indication of a possible need for special education services for your child.

At this time, we are beginning the process of requesting your child’s special education records. Please note that placement in special education services can only occur once we have received and reviewed these records.

While we wait, your child will be placed in all appropriate grade-level courses in accordance with the requirements of FAPE — the Free Appropriate Public Education mandate.

You will soon receive a call from our placement team to discuss your child’s needs and to collect any records you may have. If your child is placed in special education, you will receive a follow-up call with that confirmation.

In the meantime, please stay in communication with your child’s homeroom teacher regarding any school-related needs.

Thank you for your attention and partnership.

Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) ensures that all students have access to the curriculum and are placed without bias to disabilities. You have been placed in all courses aligned with your grade level and/or graduation plans.

🌟Next Steps Once Records are Obtained:

Your records will be reviewed by one of our Special Education Coordinators to ensure students as placed appropriately.

  • If records indicate eligibility and a need for Specially Designed Instruction you will be placed into comparable services while we collect data and set a meeting to review and revise records to ensure the student's needs are met in the virtual environment. You will get a call when placed and be able to view your Case Manager and Special Education Teachers in PowerSchool and in Canvas.
  • If records indicate, you are not eligible you will not be placed in services. You will remain in the school's Multi-tiered System of Support.
  • If records indicate a 504 you will be placed with the 504 Coordinator who will reach out to you.

Special Education Placement and Support

Once a student is placed in Special Education, they will be assigned an IEP case manager. Depending on the services outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP), they may also be placed with a special education teacher to support their learning needs. Assigned staff can be viewed in PowerSchool and within the student’s Canvas courses.

Learning Coach Expectations

At AZVA/ISAZ, a parent or other responsible adult, working in conjunction with the teacher, serves as a Learning Coach to the student. Each student is required to have a designated Learning Coach. The Learning Coach plays a vital role in supporting the student’s daily progress, ensuring that lessons are completed, assignments are submitted on time, and assessments are taken as scheduled.

If the parent is not the designated Learning Coach, they should still maintain access to the Learning Coach account to monitor progress and ensure that attendance is accurately recorded. Learning Coaches are required to log attendance daily, reflecting the work completed. Additionally, it is important to read and respond to all emails daily to stay informed and connected with the school community.
