A Message from Mr. Chesser
Hello Bear Families!
What an awesome week of school!
Our Bears have come in every day, working to re-establish routines, getting used to new teachers, administrators and friends, and getting ready to take on this school year.
We spent the first two days of school explaining our expectations and what it means to be a bear. We reviewed our core values: Bravery, Excellence, Accountability, Respect, and Self-Discipline. They have spent time getting to know their teachers and fellow students in each class - contributing to positive culture in every room.
The energy has been electric all week. I am extremely excited about the amazing things that are going to happen at MJH this school year.
I'm going to keep it short this week. I hope everyone has a great weekend, and all our Bears get some time to recover, rest, and comeback excited next week.
It was definitely a great week in Bear Nation. Check out the updates and information below.
Proud to serve Montgomery Junior High,
Tim Chesser
Principal
PS - There was a request for a picture of the green izod. There is one, and as soon as I find it, I'll share.
Important Announcements
A Note from Nurse Buckner about Medications
For the safety and privacy of our students and families, medications and supplies can only be checked in with a trained clinic staff member. If you have medication and/or supplies to be checked into the clinic for your student(s), the drop off times will be as followed:
8:15-10:30am and 12:05-1:15pm daily. Clinic staff is not available between 10:30 and 12:05.
Please note, appointments are highly encouraged to make sure clinic staff is readily available. Please contact Nurse Courtney Buckner directly by phone or email.
Please remember all medications must be brought by a parent/guardian and can not be expired.
Thank you!
Visit Our Administration by Appointment
The role of school administrator comes with many hats and responsibilities. Living on a schedule is the only effective measure that supports success in the daily operations of a school. We know that situations arise that require prioritization, while other situations may not. We believe that whether we are managing instruction, addressing student choices, organizing student/staff/or parent events, attending professional development, or partnering with parents, they are all important.
If you would like to meet with an MJH administrator when a school concern arises with your student, we definitely want to meet with you. The best way to accomplish this is through an appointment. Please email your child's Assistant Principal (contact info at the bottom of the newsletter) when this situation comes about, and we will be glad to get you on one of our schedules for that meeting. If the matter is urgent, you may contact the front office, and they will direct you to the AP secretary, Ms. Perales, to determine the best route to address your needs as quickly as possible. If you come to the school to see an administrator without an appointment, an administrator may not be available, and you will be asked to schedule an appointment at that time.
Car Rider: Improvements Have Been Positive, Still Evaluating To Make Even Better
I want to thank all car driving parents for your understanding and flexibility in helping us navigate some improvements in the car rider line. Your feedback has been great.
We know the mornings have run very smoothly, and the afternoons have provided a few challenges. However, please know that the process overall has seen faster completion and pretty constant movement. We are continuing to discuss some improvements to make the afternoon more efficient.
A couple of observations or reminders we want drivers to be aware of:
1. We have designed a system to allow traffic flow, and it requires utilizing all space for riders to get out of and in their cars. The covered walkway and crosswalk are no longer the stopping point for the car rider line. The attached photo shows the first car stopping point for drop off and pick up, and it is about 100 feet past the crosswalk. Students will be directed to walk to the appropriate spot to help keep the car rider line moving. We will direct traffic to move forward if space is available in front of them up to the sign. Please do not stop until you have reached the sign or the car in front of you has stopped. When we keep the line moving, it keeps traffic off of Stewart Creek (and in some cases 105 and Lonestar). Please help us continue a positive car rider experience.
2. At the end of school in the past, car rider parents have waited at the stop-sign at the parking lot intersection until the students were released. We will be updating the signs at that intersection soon, but invite you to begin lining up in front of the pick up area (all the way to the aforementioned sign). This also helps assist with cars creating traffic blockage (especially for our busses) on Stewart Creek.
3. Please remember our neighbors of Stewart Hill, and their request to honor their privacy by not using their neighborhood streets for pick up and drop off.
Bus Transportation Information
The best way to keep track of your bus rider throughout the year is through the MISD Smart Tag App. This is currently updated with all of your bus needs for the 2026.2027 school year. You can get instructions at our Transportation Web Site Link to get registered instantly. This App provides live route information, and confirmation when your child enters and exits the bus.
A secondary means to access transportation information is through the Skyward parent portal.
Cell Phone Policy Reminder
In 2025, Texas Legislature enacted HB1481 which prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day. Students are able to bring their cell phone to campus, but they are required to have it turned off and stored in their backpack. Personal cell phones, ear buds,, headphones, tablets, lap-top and gaming devices are all included in the "away for the day" policy. Use of these devices during the school day is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct and will be addressed accordingly.

Student IDs: Promoting School Safety
One of the most important research based factors that impacts school safety is wearing student, staff and visitor IDs. At MJH, we require all students to wear an ID on a lanyard, around their neck, visible between their collarbone and waist. Students who attempt to enter the building without an ID on will be asked to get theirs out and wear it. Those who forget them, or have lost them, will be issued a single day ID sticker for the cost of $1 that will be charged to their MySchoolBucks account. Students who acquire multiple single day ID stickers in a single grading quarter may receive disciplinary consequences and an Official ID bundle replacement for a cost of $8. Lost IDs must be replaced immediately. Please help support your students meet this expectation through reminders, routines, and habits that promote wearing their ID.
What to Wear?
School clothing has always been important to students, and school dress standards help promote a culture of success. At MJH, we make it simple. The attached graphic below shows what is expected in student attire. These standards apply to all clothing, including "ripped" jeans and off-the-shoulder tops. Pajamas, saggy pants and non-religious headwear is also not allowed. Options for students who do not meet these expectations include a school issued change of clothes, or a phone call to parents to bring the appropriate attire. Frequent violations will result in discipline consequences. We want our students to come to school comfortably, but it is important to follow this dress standard.
