February 2024
A Message from our Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to provide you with some important updates and upcoming events happening at our school.
Interpreter Supported Conferences: We will be hosting interpreter-supported conferences on February 29th from 3:40 to 5:40 PM. This will provide an opportunity for parents who may require interpretation services to participate in conferences. Our regular conferences are scheduled for March 11th and 12th. If you are unable to attend the March conferences, you are welcome to make arrangements to attend the February conferences.
English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) Testing: Currently, our English as a Second Language (ESL) students are undergoing ELPA testing to assess their proficiency levels in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. This assessment will help us tailor our instruction to better support their learning needs.
No School on February 19th: Please note that there will be no school for students on February 19th. Our teachers will be attending a professional development session presented by Ron Clark to enhance their teaching practices.
Volunteer Opportunities: Some of our staff members have volunteered to participate in packing food packs for students as part of our school's backpack program. This program provides packs of food for students to take home on Fridays, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals over the weekend.
Title Event: Books on the Beach: A big thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our recent Title Event, Books on the Beach. Your participation made it a great success, and we appreciate your ongoing support in promoting literacy among our students.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Voegeli

Box Tops for Education
Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for Loess Hills. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.
Box Tops - New Scanning Feature
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for Loess Hills. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online.
Hy-Vee Receipts - Cash For Students Program
Eligible receipts for groceries, prescriptions, floral, photoshop, and catering are accepted.
(No fuel, gas, postal, money order, Western Union, lottery, Quest, Mid American, bottle refunds or gift card receipts will be accepted.)

Costs for Damaged or Destroyed Devices
The District provides every student with a device to enhance the overall learning experience. When a student receives their device, it is their responsibility to take appropriate care of the device. Unfortunately, the District has hundreds of devices damaged or destroyed each year.
Damage to devices or lost devices could result in fines and reduced Internet access. Detailed information on fees is available in the Parent/Guardian and Student Handbook on the District website. We encourage you to remind your student about the responsibility that goes with having a device.
