Ms. Newton's Notes

Happy Monday!

Welcome back! I enjoyed the time off and I hope you all did as well. We have three weeks before our next break. Those three weeks will be filled with many things to do.

Thank you to Mr. Stewart, Mrs. Burns, Ms. Chatham, Ms. Monroe, Mrs. Guest and Mr. Brooks for hosting our last Cast Gathering. Here are a few pictures from our time together. Our next Cast Gathering will be December 20, 2019. Please join us at either 8:15 or 8:55!

The Tue/Thu Girls On The Run team at F.AVE had a bake sale and raised $300 for Mr Brooks for music equipment! Thank you to all those who supported the GOTR bake sale and special thanks to the team and coaches for such a kind act!

Mid-Year Assessments

MAP Testing

We are approaching the time of year where we begin to think about what information we need to support students’ growth for the second half of the year. In the past, every student has taken MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) in December. We will not be doing that this year. Our grade level common assessments will be used to gauge where all students are in their learning. The mid-year MAP will be used as an additional assessment to monitor more closely progress for those students who are receiving intervention services. Intervention services include EIP, Special Education, and Tiers II and III of the RTI process (Response to Intervention).

iReady Diagnostic 2

i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment designed to provide teachers with actionable insight into student needs. By adapting to student responses and assessing a broad range of skills—including skills above and below a student’s chronological grade—the i‑Ready Diagnostic pinpoints students' ability levels, identifies the specific skills students need to learn to accelerate their growth, and charts a personalized learning path for each student. This personalized learning path is accessible to students on-line at and outside of school. Every student will participate in this diagnostic assessment in late January/early February.

What information does MAP give vs. iReady?

MAP gives us information about how much growth students are making towards their personal growth goal based upon a national norm. iReady gives us information about where students are in mastery of Georgia's state standards and supplies instructional resources for grade level, below grade level and above grade level needs. Both assessments provide useful information and can serve different instructional purposes. All students will experience both assessments, just not all at the same points throughout the school year.

Have a fantastic week!

The F.Ave community will be holding a non-perishable food drive the week of 12/9-12/19. We will come together to support those in need by providing the most needed items. The collected items will go to support over 250 local families per month at DEAM (Decatur-Area Emergency Assistance Ministry).

Just imagine the kindness we could spread if each family brought in one item! F.Ave Falcons, fly high for a great cause!

Walk & Roll – 12/10

Don’t let the cold weather keep you from enjoying the outdoors. Join us next Tuesday, December 10 for our next Walk&Roll to School Day! We’ll be handing out numbered certificates to all Walkers & Rollers as part of our monthly Walk & Roll book drawing. If you cannot walk all the way, consider driving to Harmony Park (corner of Mead, Oakview, and Eastlake) and walk the final 0.4 miles. There are plenty of parking spots around that area, and you’ll be sure to meet many other families doing the same. Additional 'Stop, Drop, and Walk' routes to F.Ave are found here. If you must drive, please be extra cautious that morning, as there will be lots of extra children walking or riding their bikes. Give them extra room (remember, a 3 foot distance is the law, but more is always better!), as they might not be as sturdy or mindful on their bikes as adults.

If you have any questions, please contact: kendallhamilton@bellsouth.net
