Fourth Grade News!Marking Period 3

Fourth Graders Rock!!

We have made it halfway through our school year! Students are engaged, learning, participating, and showing our core values throughout each day! We are anxious to get back outside (with cooperating weather and temperature) so please make sure students are wearing coats when coming to school. We are excited for the second half of the school year!

What's New In Reading?

We have began reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. It is about an eleven year old girl who has Cerebral Palsy. She is intelligent, but cannot speak or walk. She perseveres through some difficult times and then discovers something that will let her speak for the very first time! This is a fourth grade favorite! We will be focusing on this throughout most of the marking period!

What's New In Math?

In the third marking period, we have a heavy focus on multiplication and division skills. Students will use these skills to convert units of measure, as well as solve multi-step problems. We are also preparing for upcoming state testing by working in small groups to review concepts taught previously this year. Our students have been doing an excellent job with goal setting and are seeing their hard work pay off! We had amazing growth in MAPs testing and our students are motivated to reach new goals with MCAP!

Science

This marking period, we have switched from Social Studies to Science. We will be focusing on how forces act on an object. Students will explore how friction and mass can impact motion and speed. One of the key concepts is that energy is neither created nor destroyed. The second part of this unit students will study energy and electricity. This will be done through he use of the Engineering Design Process (EDP) as students investigate electricity
