Overview of Work Based Learning

The Work-Based Learning Framework 2.0 will be utilized at Missouri Virtual Academy to guide the types of activities students will participate in based on their grade-level. This framework ensures that students’ experiences are structured in a progression leading to career training and execution and increasing individualization as students connect their interests, skills, and goals with career possibilities. These learning experiences will ensure that students develop transferable skills and assist in making career decisions.

  • Career Awareness: Student experiences in grades K-9 will focus on “career awareness”. Students will gain awareness of industry trends in the US and what is occurring in their local area. Students will develop prerequisite knowledge aligned to in-demand careers and gain understanding of career opportunities that exist. Student experiences may include guest speakers, career and post-secondary fairs, informational interviews, and workplace tours.

  • Career Exploration: Student experiences in grades 6-9 will focus on “career exploration”. Students are enrolled in explorations courses and learn how career fields and pathways apply to the workforce. Explorations are accompanied by assessments that cover interests, skills, etc. Student experiences may include job shadowing and mentoring.

  • Career Preparation: Student experiences in grades 9-11 will focus on “career preparation”. Students will be enrolled in courses specific to their pathway. Students will be actively involved in a Career and Technical Student Organization, maintain their Tallo profile, and explore their professional and post-secondary interests and opportunities. Student experiences may include community service and volunteering, CTSO events, school-based enterprises, pre-apprenticeships, professional skills development, and integrated projects.

  • Career Training: Student experiences in grades 11-12 will focus on “career training”. Students will participate in a capstone experience where a student is engaging in internships, apprenticeships, work experience, or leading their own business. These capstone experiences will lead students to enrollment, enlistment, or employment.

Pathful Connect for Students

Xello Xello

Xello is an online program your child is using in school to help them prepare for the future. It offers a variety of activities from kindergarten to the end of high school. These activities help students build self-knowledge, explore their options, and create achievable plans. They develop the 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the world of work.

It’s important for students to take ownership in planning for their future. But the caring adults in their life play an essential supporting role. Use your Xello Family account to see your child’s work in future-readiness. Use this opportunity to discuss and support their future goals and plans.

Logging into Your Xello Family Account

When your child’s school or district has created a Xello Family account for you, you’ll receive an email. The email will include a link to activate your account within 7 days of receiving it. All you’ll need to do to get started is set a password.

Note: If you haven't received the activation email, it may have redirected to your spam folder. Make sure to remove "xello.world" from your email spam settings to receive this and future messages from Xello.

If you forget your password:

  1. Visit https://login.xello.world/
  2. Click Having trouble signing in?
  3. Enter your email address and click Send Email.
  4. You’ll receive an email to reset your Xello Family password.

If you don’t have a Xello Family account, ask Mrs. Jarvis (bjarvis@missouriva.org ) to create one for you.

Getting Around Your Xello Family Account

Your child will need the support of caring adults to achieve their dreams. One of the ways you can support their future is through Xello Family.

The dashboard is the first page you’ll see when you log in. From here, you can manage your personal account, check out your child’s work, and access the demo account.
