Happy last school Friday of 2024 Panthers! We've had another busy week here at DKMS.

I would like to congratulate all of the Student of the Term award recipients and their families for attending the award ceremony on Monday morning. It is always a great day when we are able to recognize and celebrate our students for doing a phenomenal job. We are a few weeks into the second trimester, so all of our students still have the opportunity to earn Student of the Term for the second trimester.

Today is the last day of the second marking period. We will be emailing report cards by January 15, 2025. If you need to update or add an email address, please contact the middle school office at (269) 623-1541.

In our sports update, I would like to thank our boys basketball teams and our competitive cheer team for great seasons. Our competitive cheer team has their last competition tomorrow at Plainwell High School starting at 10:00 am. Good luck Panthers!

Also, girls 6th, 7th, and 8th basketball and middle school wrestling will start when students return from winter break. If your child plans on participating please make sure they have a current physical on file in the high school athletic office. Girls basketball practice begins after school Monday January 6, 2025.

As always, I would like to thank all of our students, staff, families, and community for all of their hard work and support. I hope everyone has a wonderful break and gets to spend time relaxing and having fun with family and friends. We will see everyone back Monday January 6, 2025! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year Panthers!

It's a great day to be a Panther!!!

Thank you,

Bobby Tillman

Student of the Term Celebration Student of the Term Celebration

On Monday, December 16th, we held a special Continental Breakfast to celebrate our "Student of the Term" honorees. This event was a chance to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in both behavior and academics, embodying the SK2R values of being Safe, Kind, Responsible, and Respectful.

Students who were selected for this honor were able to be joined by two guests each, to share in the celebration of their achievements. The breakfast provided a wonderful opportunity for students to be recognized for their hard work, positive attitude, and commitment to creating a supportive and respectful school environment.

We are proud of all our Student of the Term honorees and look forward to seeing even more students shine in the upcoming terms.

Congratulations again to all those recognized for their outstanding efforts!

Genius Hour Project Genius Hour Project

During the first semester, Mr. Eastway’s Flex class was given a unique opportunity to dedicate one class period a week to work on a project of their choosing. The goal was for students to explore something that piqued their interest or pursue something they’ve always wanted to try but never had the chance to do.

Austin Roach took full advantage of this opportunity by going above and beyond with his project. He decided to build a model comparison of old-school versus new-school hunting blinds and tactics. Austin researched the topic during class time and spent his free time at home working alongside his family to create an impressive 3D model.

During his presentation, Austin shared that although his initial inspiration for the project came from his love of hunting, he developed a new passion for model building throughout the process. He expressed excitement about using this newly acquired skill in future projects, if given the chance.

Austin's dedication and hard work are a true testament to the creativity and effort students can achieve when given the chance to explore their interests. Well done, Austin!

Middle School Band Spreads Holiday Cheer in Rescheduled Winter Concert Middle School Band Spreads Holiday Cheer in Rescheduled Winter Concert

After two snow days caused the concert to be rescheduled, the middle school band finally had the opportunity to perform on December 16, 2024, during the school day at the high school. We would like to give a big thank you to Mrs. Knight for her dedication and leadership in preparing the students for their performance. The concert was a perfect way to celebrate the holiday season and the joy of music.

We are proud of the middle school band and look forward to seeing their continued growth in the new year!

7th Grade ROX Girls Embrace Teamwork in the “Caterpillar Activity” 7th Grade ROX Girls Embrace Teamwork in the “Caterpillar Activity”

Message from Sarah Collins, School Counselor and ROX Facilitator

This week in the 7th grade ROX Girls group, we continued working on teamwork and cooperation as the girls worked together and participated in the "Caterpillar Activity". The goal was to move around the room with balloons between them and walk together to the end point WITHOUT using their hands. In this session, we were able to talk about and reflect on our own skills as well as one another’s so that we can work effectively together throughout ROX as we continue to move through the program.

ROX is all about learning how to respect and support one another in and out of ROX sessions. When we practice respect and support in ROX, it becomes easier to do the same outside of ROX. It teaches that students have the power to change our school, rule their own experiences, and show that support to one another. ROX is a place where we continue to show how to build each other up.

The most impactful part about being a ROX Facilitator is the opportunity to empower young girls and watch them grow into confident and assertive individuals. I also get to use my platform to raise awareness about the challenges girls face and advocate for policies that support their well-being. I am hopeful to expand this program into multiple grades in the coming years and impact future Delton students in a positive way!

We want to extend a big thank you to Kathryn and Terry Doubledee, along with Aleshia Doubledee, for treating our staff to hot coffee, hot chocolate, and delicious scones in the teachers' lounge on December 18th.
