Ms. Newton's Notes
Happy Monday!
We are looking forward to a great week before our Fall break. One of the differences you will see upon return is that about half of the modular unit will be gone. There are six classrooms that will be removed over the course of next week. You will begin to see changes around Thursday or Friday of this week as some of the parking on the end near the basketball court will not be accessible due to the deconstruction team's equipment.
Nurse's Notes
Part of staying healthy this winter is getting an annual flu shot. Dekalb County Board of Health will be conducting flu shot clinics for all members of the community at several locations around City Schools of Decatur in the coming weeks. Bring your insurance card as Aetna, Amerigroup, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicaid, Medicare Part B, Peach State Health Plan, and State Health Plan (excluding Kaiser Permanente) cover the cost of the shot. Otherwise shots are $35 (under 65 years old) and $65 for the high dose vaccine for those 65 and over. Please plan on attending one of the following clinics or obtaining a flu shot at your primary care provider's office before the end of October:
- 9/16 Wilson Center (Central Offices) 2-5p
- 9/19 College Heights ELC 2-5p
- 10/1 Oakhurst Elementary 2:30-5pm (2:30-3p Staff Only)
- 10/2 Glennwood Elementary 2:30-3:30p
- 10/8 Talley Street Upper Elementary 2:30-3:30p
- 10/10 Clairmont Elementary 2:30-5p (2:30-3p Staff Only)
- 10/21 Winnona Park Elementary 3-6p.

Important Information about Gifted Review
Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and to determine if further evaluation for possible gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at this website) and submit it to the Gifted Specialist at your child’s school by October 9th. No additional information is needed.
The Gifted Specialists for F.AVE are Jennifer Broman-Fulks (3rd grade), Edwin Ellis (4th grade) and Jackie Theisen (5th grade). For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted Specialist for your child's grade level or visit the website linked above.
