Principal's Update

Happy Friday U-32 Community,

As I write this, Parent/Teacher/Student conferences are taking place and I have seen several families in the school talking with teachers. I hope you were able to connect with teachers to discuss students' progress and needs. I know that there were some difficulties with our scheduling software for these conferences, and we will be changing to a much better system for our spring conferences so we don't run into any problems. I also encourage families or students to reach out to teachers if they have any questions or concerns.

We have had no updates to the bus shooting incident since the last email from our Superintendent. In a previous email, she shared the following:

It may be helpful for you to know that after incidents such as these, we meet with all of the agencies involved (school, law enforcement, our contracted bus company) to understand exactly what happened in the moment and why, debrief those actions, discuss what we learned and make adjustments to our response plans moving forward. Our school-based and district safety teams also debrief incidents. We are still early in this process, but this is part of our protocol. I will be sharing more information after that occurs.

We will provide more information as we have it. Please feel free to reach out to U-32 if you have additional questions.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Steven

How to look at your child's grades in Infinite Campus

At U-32, we use a Proficiency-Based grading system that scores students on rubrics that are scaled from 0-4. Each course will score students on multiple standards in each Student Learning Outcome and student performance on each of these standards are used to determine the overall Course Score. I have created a video that shows you how to look at student progress on course standards and how to review student progress on assignments. There is also information in our guide, Understanding your child's Report Card and Transcript, on how to look at student scores.

In addition to Course Scores, we also track progress towards graduation. Progress towards graduation is on our Transcripts, where we show Course Scores that make up the Grade Point Average, and overall progress on our Student Learning Outcomes. It takes students multiple years in several courses to meet our graduation expectations in each of our Learning Outcomes and our Transcript tracks that progress.

Additional information about Infinite Campus: IC is our Student Information System that we have used for the past decade to house demographic information, grades and transcripts. IC is the program where you can review information such as attendance, grades, assignments, and schedules. Infinite Campus can be accessed through this link , which can also be found on the main page of our website in the top right corner. If you get to this page and do not have access to Infinite Campus you can email Tracy Martin, tmartin@u32.org, and she will provide you with access information.

You can also access the Parent Portal or Student Portal of Infinite Campus by downloading the Portal App for either Android or iPhone onto your phone and following the same login process as the website. Your view of Infinite Campus as a parent or student will be very similar no matter what platform you use. To help you see the features of Infinite Campus, I have recorded a video that I encourage you to watch. There are also other resources available from Infinite Campus that are listed below:

Parent Portal Guide

I hope that these resources are helpful as we begin to use more of the Infinite Campus functionality to communicate with our community.
