The new year is off to a bright start, largely in part due to our students who continue to shine bright! Yesterday we celebrated our 2nd Quarter Students of the Quarter with a congratulatory breakfast, welcoming their families and nominating teachers.

HF is excited to send our talented musicians to the Illinois Music Education Conference (IMEC)! Help send them off on Wednesday, January 29th at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium!

Conducted by HF Band Director Sarah Whitlock, the Vikings will head to the IMEC in Peoria on January 31st and be joined by Grammy Award Winning Saxophonist (and HF Alum!) Christopher McBride, as well as Monticello Middle School Jazz Band Conductor Amanda Allen. The IMEC features over 150 clinics and concerts over three days.

HF is excited to announce two new Head Coaches to in our Athletics Department:

The Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233 Board of Education approved the hiring of Troy McAllister as the new Head Football Coach and a Physical Education, Health, and Driver Education teacher for the 2025-26 school year. McAllister brings a wealth of experience, a proven track record of success, and an unwavering commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the field.

McAllister’s career highlights are a testament to his dedication and expertise in high school football coaching. With a career coaching record of 113-48, his accomplishments include:

• Two Illinois State Championships (2015, 2017)
• State Runner-Up Finish (2014)
• 2018 Gatorade Coaching Excellence Award
• 2020 Max Preps Illinois Top High School Football Coach

McAllister most recently served as Head Football Coach at Carl Sandburg High School, where he led the team to multiple state playoff appearances, including the 2021, 2023, and 2024 seasons. Read the full announcement here.

A familiar face around the Science halls, Nate Nesbit is named the new Head Girls Volleyball Coach for the 2025-26 school year! Nesbit brings proven experience, a record of success, and a commitment to athlete development to the Viking volleyball program.

For the last three years on MLK Day, HF’s Wrestling Team partners with District 153 for a day of buddy reading, while also collecting books to be donated to a school district in need. This year, the team successfully collected enough books to fill multiple boxes! Our wrestlers and future Vikings had a great time together.

Congratulations to HF Scholastic Bowl! The team had a fantastic finish in the Loyola Ultima Tournament, taking 2nd Place out of 24 teams in the Challenge Division, losing a heartbreaker in the championship match to Francis Parker 305-300.

Senior Everett Van Til was named to the All-Tournament Team, while Junior Luke DeBruin and Sophomore Eliot Wheat also averaged over 35 points per game on toss-up questions.

Senior Javiyah Israel won Best of Show in the Black Creativity Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry. She created her painting, entitled Unbothered, in Ms. Wargo's Drawing and Painting 2 Honors class. Javiyah will win $600 for her work! A reception will be held on Thursday, January 30th for students.

Congrats to our HF Steppers on taking home their first 1st Place trophy of the season! The team competes again this weekend at Yorkville High School.

Parent University is the place for our students’ parents and parental figures to gain tools and tips for navigating the Viking high school experience. In these sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to be guided by some of our dedicated staff on topics from registration to post-secondary planning and more.

We kicked off the Parent U's this week with Guidance Department Lead Dr. Olowe: Are you an incoming HF Freshman Parent? Join Dr. Olowe as we discuss Class of 2029 Course Registration. This essential session is designed to guide parents through the critical steps of enrolling their soon-to-be freshman in high school, including the Residency and Registration, Class Schedules and Course Selection.

It’s chilly outside, but the summer heat is just around the corner. You can cool off at HF and sign up for Summer School 2025! Summer School pre-registration is taking place online again this year.

Students interested in attending Summer School will enter their choice in Schoolinks where their counselor will approve it. Students can start meeting now with their counselors to complete this process. Learn about summer school course offerings, registration and more in the 2025 Summer School Brochure.

Interested in taking Driver's Ed at HF? We're excited to offer Classroom Instruction and Behind-the-Wheel (for students turning 16 on or before November 1, and sophomore status) again this summer. Pre-Registration will begin on Monday, February 3.

Tickets are on sale now through February 6th for next month's Turnabout Dance, A Night in Paris, happening Saturday, February 15th at 8 p.m. at Tuscany Falls (9425 W. 191st Street in Mokena).

2nd Semester is here, and that means it's already time to start preparing for next school year's classes. Friendly reminders regarding student driving: All permits are sold out for the remainder of the year, so students must have a permit to park on campus during the school day. Additionally, please remember that students drive their cars between buildings at any point during the school day. If students drive, and they do not have a permit, their car will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense.

Senior Yearbook Portraits and Premier Sessions are quickly coming. There are limited dates for the premier sessions at HF. Make sure to schedule your appointment today to take advantage of this opportunity at HF instead of traveling to a VIP studio. In order to appear in the yearbook, all seniors must have their photo taken by VIP. Photographs submitted from other studios will NOT be accepted into the yearbook. See full details here.

Join the Village of Flossmoor's annual Lunar New Year Celebration at the Flossmoor Public Library! There will be different stations around the Youth Services area where you can learn about the celebration and make a fun craft and take a family picture. End the celebration with a parade throughout the 2nd floor-with noise makers and masks! No registration required for this all-ages event.
