Wildwood Weekly News
March 14th, 2025
Principal Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to third winter, where the temperature says -10 but it feels like -60. While freezing rain and snow disrupted our busses and school plans on Thursday we still had a full week.
Monday started the first day of our automated safe arrival program, there is more info below. We also had Archery practice after school. Next week our Archery team travels to Edmonton to compete in NASP provincials.
Tuesday, the Adams family donated a hot lunch from Wildwood 2 for 1 pizza. I do not believe I saw a single wasted crumb, the students enjoyed it so much.
We also have our School Council Meeting. We discussed upcoming events at the school. Remember that our Purdy's fundraiser is now active.
Thursday we had around 30 students who made the brave trip in to focus on skill practice in their classes. There was also some work on leprechaun traps!
Friday, Bus to Swim permission forms went home with interested students. I have also included a copy linked below. This activity runs for 5 Thursdays starting April 10th. Note that it has a cost of $100 and is capped at 40 students.
Next week we have a pancake breakfast on Tuesday organized by the School Council. Report cards will also be released on Friday. This round we will be posting to the parent portal and printing by request. If you would like your student's report card printed please contact their homeroom teacher and we would be happy to facilitate your request. Our year end report cards will be printed for all students.
GYPSD is seeking feedback on the school calendar please see this link to the survey.
If you have any questions or concerns you can always reach out to the school through the office or email me at alanstoy@gypsd.ca.
Sincerely,
Alan Stoyles
Principal

Attendance Calls Update
On Monday March 10th, Wildwood School will be switching from manual calling for students that are marked absent to an automated safe arrival system. At 9:30 each day the system will call the parent or guardian of all students marked absent. Students that are previously identified as illness, family priority, or no bus will not be called. If you receive this call and your child should be at school please call the school office at 780-325-3858. If you would like to identify your student as missing for the day or update the absence after receiving the call please email your student's homeroom teacher (email's below) or Mrs. Vankosky . Please be patient with us during this transition.

Spotlight on School Success: Assurance Survey (Closes March 21st)
- The annual Alberta Assurance Survey is now out. This gives a chance for parents and students in grade 4-6 in our school to provide feedback on how they feel things are going. It is often described as the School's Report Card. We use the data from this survey to help us with planning and addressing issues. It is important that we get as many responses as possible in order to get the most complete possible picture of how our school is doing.
- If you have any issues with access please let the school know.
- One last thing, the survey considers "don't know" answers to be the same as a negative response. If you are not sure about a question please feel free to call the school or send me an email at alanstoy@gypsd.ca.

The fundraiser will run from March 5 to March 26. Pickup will be at the Wildwood School on Tuesday April 15, after school (possibly earlier depending on delivery date to the school).
