Principal's Message
Dear Hiawatha Community,
The month of November is always a time for me to reflect and think about the things I am grateful for in my life. Thank you for allowing me to be the principal of Hiawatha Elementary School. For the last 24 years, I’ve had the privilege of working in public schools. I am so grateful that I am here in this community, working with the amazing faculty and staff that I work with, and serving you and your fabulous children.
Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate,
Katherine

Kindergarten & 1st Grade Arrival Location Reminder
Dear Kindergarten and 1st Grade Families,
After our Fall break ALL Kindergarteners and 1st Graders are to enter the school at the double doors by the gym lobby when they arrive every morning until further notice.
Message from Mr. B in PE
Earlier this month students worked on their underhand tossing skills. I reminded them to face the target, swing their arms back, and step with the opposite foot from the hand they toss with. Students had multiple opportunities to practice this skill while playing Cornhole, Make It Take It, and Decorate Your Cookie.
This week we jumped into overhand throwing by playing Pinball and Battleship. Important cues for this skill include, side to target, point (make an L), and step with opposite foot. In addition to tossing and throwing skills, students had a lot of fun getting their heart rates up while playing Alligator Island, Line Tag, Turkey Tag and Scooter Down.
Hand to Hand Reminder
Message from PTO
Hiawatha Families, on behalf of the PTO I’d like to wish you all a joyful and restful Fall Break. I am thankful for all of you who give your time, ideas and enthusiasm to PTO.
Did you know that last year our PTO voted to eliminate the Holiday Dessert Swap? This was a decision made in response to parent feedback about how taxing this time of year is for parents. Before you say, but what about the teachers?! The decision to nix the Dessert Swap was a reaction to conversations with teachers too. No worries, though, we’ve got them covered! Stay tuned for more information on our big plan to support our teachers. In the meantime, enjoy your vacation with your amazing kids!
