House Bill 292 & Facility Funding
In 2023, Idaho established the School District Facilities Fund (Idaho Code 33-911) to help school districts pay for facility construction and renovations while also providing property tax relief.
Funding is based on the best 28 weeks of student attendance from the prior year.
Districts with existing voter-approved bonds or levies must apply this funding toward those amounts first.
Districts are required to report facility funding to the county to prevent double taxation.
For the 2025–2026 school year, Lakeland received $4 million in facility funds. This reduced the amount levied on taxpayers for the $7.52 million supplemental levy to about $3.52 million with the state covering the difference.
Since 2023, Lakeland Joint School District taxpayers have benefited from over $8.12 million in property tax relief thanks to this program.
Because the funding varies each year, Idaho Code 34-914 prohibits districts from including projected property tax relief in levy ballot language.

TRUST Statement
Our TRUST Statement defines how we expect to treat one another in the Lakeland District. TRUST is an acronym that stands for:
Trust Each Other – Build relationships grounded in honesty and reliability.
Respect Each Other – Every person has value and deserves to be heard.
Unity – Stand together to understand one another and work toward common goals.
Support Each Other – Help one another grow, especially during challenges.
Transparency – Be open and honest, while using good judgment in how we communicate.
Trust Awards
Students from Betty Kiefer Elementary helped kick off the school year by being the first recipients of the district’s new TRUST Awards, a program created by the Lakeland Jt. School District to celebrate students who exemplify Trust, Respect, Unity, Support, and Transparency. These outstanding students were selected for consistently demonstrating these core values in their school and community. This marks the first-ever presentation of the TRUST Awards, which will be given out monthly, highlighting students from a different school each time who model what it means to build trust and community within Lakeland schools.
Receiving the Awards were:
Jaxon Buchanan - Kindergarten
Raelyn Jansen - 1st
Ember Weitz - 2nd
Wyatt Janicki - 3rd
Bexlyn Stutheit - 4th
Jake Sanders - 5th
Their Principal, Mrs. Hoffman said, "These students show up each day with a smile on their face and kindness in their heart. They are selfless in their actions with classmates and teachers and always strive to put forth their best effort! Our BKE community is a better place with them in it! "

GATE visits Northwest Specialty Hospital
Thank You, Northwest Specialty Hospital!
Our GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) students had an incredible field trip to Northwest Specialty Hospital, where they learned about the fascinating world of robotic surgery. Students explored how surgical robots are used to increase precision and safety in the operating room. They even had the opportunity to test the robotic arm that places screws during "surgery" and use the computer system to practice placing screws just like real surgeons! *No actual surgeries were involved:)
A huge thank-you to the staff at Northwest Specialty Hospital for providing such an educational and inspiring experience!
