A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear PES community,
We are quickly approaching the end of the year. This time of year it often feels like we wind up before we wind down. We’re sticking together, working hard, and enjoying these last few days of school. Thank you for your PES gear orders. All gear was distributed this week.
May Students of the Month:
Congratulations to the following award winners: Christopher Mixon, Lily Hawkes, Amelia Coon, Silas Wyman, Lela MacLeod, Riley Kirk, Caroline Wells, Eben Small, Abby Trask, Venner Benfield, Elli Genthner, Sterling Cavanagh, Rowen Kilde, and Maggie-Lee Lake.
Celebrations from the classroom!
This week, our 4th grade students travelled to Little River in Lisbon Falls to release the salmon they have been raising in their classroom aquarium. They had a blast watching their salmon swim free. On Tuesday, they also traveled to the Maine Maritime Museum for some fun pirate simulation. Our 5th grade students took a tour of BMS this week, learning about what school will look like for them next year, as they transition to middle school. Our second grade students had a visit from
Mr. Vande, who taught them about his oyster farm in Damariscotta. Mr. Vande raises his oysters in the mud flats. Kindergarten students took a field trip to Head Beach and Hermit Island to look for hermit crabs and observe their habitats. The field trip ties into their study of hermit crabs in the classroom this spring.
Congratulations to the class of 2025!
Former PES students traveled back to elementary school on Wednesday morning. Students and staff lined the hallways in a clapping ceremony. The graduates visited classrooms, ate lunch, and recreated some fun pictures from fifth grade. You can see the pictures from their visit on our Facebook page. We wish them the best of luck!
Reminders!
Yearbooks are here and being distributed to students next week. We have a few extras on a first come first serve basis. Contact Tammy.
Report cards will be coming home on June 12th. Be on the lookout and return your folders, please.
Please join us at the celebration of learning, Friday, June 13th at 2:00pm.
On Monday, June 16th, we will be sending all student materials home.
Field Day, Tuesday, June 17th: Students should only bring a water bottle and lunch to school. Be sure to apply sunscreen and bug spray before leaving home. Students should dress appropriately and wear crocs, sandals, or other shoes that can withstand sand and sun. There will be no access to water for students - so a large/giant bottle of water is essential!
Warm regards,
Nina Willette, Principal
REMINDERS
- The last day of school for Pre-K is Friday, June 13th. The last day of school for students in K-12 is Tuesday, June 17th. It will be a half day, with dismissal at noon-if there are any changes to the usual routine, please notify Mrs. Doran at 389-1514 or tdoran@rsu1.org by 9AM. K-5 students will be dismissed from Head Beach parking lot (bus and parent pickups).
- Please be sure to check the Lost & Found when you visit the school. Our collection is located in the middle hall and on the bench. Any items left over after June 17th will be donated to charity.
- Next week's newsletter will be the final one for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Next Wednesday, June 11th, will be our final Great Start Activity day. A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to our wonderful and faithful volunteers: Josh Anderson, Alina Benfield, Lindsay DeBery, Trinity Driscoll, Jeremy Eaton, Sarah Mancini, Karen MacGillivary, Patty McLaughlin, Callie Wells, and Jenny Whetstone. We couldn't have provided Great Start Activities without them! 😃
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
The PES office will be open from 7:30AM-4PM June 18-25 (closed on June 19 for the holiday), then only open on Wednesdays until August 19. Please call or email ahead to be sure Mrs. Doran will be there for a visit. If those hours are inconvenient, paper work may be mailed to PES, 1047 Main Rd, Phippsburg, ME 04562 or scanned and emailed to tdoran@rsu1.org.
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Just a reminder that all remaining student medications (prescription, over the counter, inhalers, etc.) must be picked up on the last day of school (June 17th). (Mrs. Doran will be at the school while students are at field Day at Hermit Island, so parents can pick up medications at school, on their way to the beach.) Anything left after the last day will be disposed of.
As we enter the sunny summer days, please remember:
LIBRARY NEWS
All library books were due Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Parents, please help students locate any lost books; under the bed, in the closet, in the book cases, in the car, at grandparents, etc. Students will still have the opportunity to read books during library class.
We are sending home the pink summer reading BINGO forms this week. Complete a row or the entire sheet for a prize when you return the form to Mrs. Polizotto in the fall.
See below for information on a summer reading program at the Totman Library!
TRANSPORTATION SURVEY
Have you completed the PES Transportaion Survey yet? A link was emailed to guardians last week. We are hoping to submit your information to the bus office by June 17th. Please make sure that your student's regular plan for getting to/from school is recorded!
This year we are also asking our families with students who will be 6th graders in the fall to include their transportation information with us as well!
YEARBOOK ORDERS
Yearbooks will be going home next week. We have ordered a few extra. If you missed ordering and wish to purchase one, please contact Mrs. Doran at tdoran@rsu1.org. You will receive your yearbook after she receives your $20 payment; first come, first served until we run out. Please make checks payable to Phippsburg Elementary School.
