News from the Principal 🤩
🌟 Happy Friday, Neabsco Families!
I am so proud to share that Mrs. Larimore has been selected as one of only five national finalists for the American Counseling Association’s 2025 Counselor of the Year Award! Please join me in congratulating her and celebrating this incredible recognition of her dedication and care for our students. 💙
🧹 Custodial Appreciation Week
This week, we celebrated Custodial Appreciation Week! Please join me in thanking our amazing custodial team for the incredible work they do each and every day to keep our school clean, safe, and beautiful. Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but their impact is seen and felt by every student, staff member, and family. We truly appreciate all they do for the Neabsco community! 💛
🎃 Upcoming Events
Peri Peri Fundraiser Night, Woodbridge - Monday, October 13th
Trunk or Treat — Thursday, October 23rd
Family Conference Day — Monday, November 3rd
As we prepare for Family Conference Day, please make sure you’ve signed up for either an in-person or phone conference with your child’s teacher. These conferences are an important opportunity to learn about your child’s progress and celebrate their growth.
If you have not yet heard from your child’s teacher, please contact the front office or reach out to me directly. Teachers are expected to communicate regularly with families so that you’re always informed about your child’s learning and success.
🚗 Safety Reminder —
Safety First, Always!
Families, please help us keep everyone safe during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
We’ve noticed an increase in families parking in the staff lot and walking students through the parking area. For everyone’s safety, please do not use the staff parking lot for drop-off or walk-up.
Instead, use the Kiss & Ride lane or have your child enter as a student walker through the front door.
Also, please remember to stay off cell phones while driving or parking on school grounds. With so many children and families moving around, we want to ensure that everyone arrives and leaves school safely.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us make safety a top priority every day.
Mrs. Brooke LeVecchi
Principal, Neabsco Elementary

Neabsco Families thank you so much for a wonderful week of tutoring. Our first week was met with a variety of different learning opportunities for our students. Students enjoyed receiving dinner before their learning experiences began. Tutoring registration ends on Friday, October 10 at 8:00pm. This is the deadline to register your student if you would like your student to receive tutoring in the morning or afternoon. Students have the opportunity to stay for morning and afternoon if you would like them to receive the extra support.
Here is the link to the form: https://forms.office.com/r/iaTG6G6iT1
Last day to sign up, please make sure you sign up today!
Reminders: Morning tutoring drop off should not be before 8:05. This is to ensure staff are present to make sure your student is safe. Students will not be allowed to stay for tutoring if they are not signed up. Students must be signed up to stay for tutoring. Again, this is a safety precaution to make sure staff know your student is in the building.
Please make sure you read the weekly school newsletter since information is included about the tutoring program. It is also includes reminders about tutoring and about how our staff is specifically targeting your student's learning needs.

Math Minute
Anyone who’s played with Lego knows you can build amazing creations from those tiny bricks. But artist Sean Kenneyhas taken this toy to the wild side with giant Lego animals that almost look real. This 5-foot-wide peacock uses more than 68,000 pieces of Lego, and a polar bear with her cubs uses a whopping 125,000 bricks. The heaviest animal Sean has built weighs 400 pounds all by itself — which might be why Sean now owns more than 4 tons of Lego.
Wee ones: If the mama Lego polar bear has 3 cubs, how many bear family members did Sean build?
Little kids: The peacock tail uses 3 shades of blue, 4 shades of green, a grey and a brown. How many colors is that? Bonus: If you stack a blue brick, then a green, a grey, and a brown, then start over with blue to repeat, what color is the 13th piece?
Big kids: If Sean owned exactly 4 short tons of Lego, how many pounds would that be? (A short ton has 2,000 pounds.) Bonus: If you build your own Lego anteater, and the number of bricks is halfway between the 32,000-piece leopard and the 60,000-piece butterfly, how many pieces do you use?
The sky’s the limit: Quick: if each row of the peacock’s eyes has 2 more eyes than the row before, and 3 touching rows have 48 eyes, how many eyes does the longest row have?
Answers:
Wee ones: 4 polar bears.
Little kids: 9 colors. Bonus: Blue.
Big kids: 8,000 pounds of Lego. Bonus: 46,000 pieces. The other two animals are 28,000 pieces apart, so yours is 14,000 more than the leopard and 14,000 less than the butterfly.
The sky’s the limit: 18 eyes. If all the rows were the same, they’d each have 16 eyes (48 divided by 3). We can then just shift 2 eyes from one row to another to get 14, 16, and 18.
Leader In Me
Leader in Me is a school-wide program that builds on the leadership, responsibility and goal-setting skills we already nurture every day. Rooted in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, this curriculum gives us a shared language and tools to help students grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
Ask your child, to find out which 'Leader in Me' habit they are working on in their classroom and how they are implementing it in their days at school and at home!
Growing Readers
“Nobody’s perfect and like all kids, your child will sometimes make mistakes on tests or assignments. But that’s no reason for either of you to get discouraged! Research shows that when children learn from their errors, they do better in school. When they fix their mistakes, students learn that they can improve. And when they avoid repeating the errors, they learn they can get smarter-and that boosts their confidence about their ability to learn (Parent Institute and Title One 10/2025).”
Every night, sit down with your Neabsco Scholar to ask them about their schoolwork and any mistakes they made in their day. Ask your scholar if they understand the mistake they made and why they got it wrong. Work together to fix the mistake and if they still don’t understand it, help your scholar to write down what they don’t understand. This will give them a starting point of what questions to ask their teacher. Talk about ways your scholar can avoid repeating that kind of mistake again— “by reading carefully, slowing down, double-checking work, asking for help, etc.
Celebrate the progress your scholar is making. Compare their weekly scores on assignments. Praise the improvement and talk about how learning from past mistakes likely made a difference. (H.S Schoder and others, “Neutral evidence for enhanced attention to mistakes among school-aged children with a growth mindset,” Development Cognitive Neuroscience, Elsevier B.V.)”
Please remember we have many professionals here at Neabsco to support you with your scholar's education. Our classroom teachers work hard and attend continuous education opportunities to help enrich the curriculum and support different scholar needs. Our ESOL teachers are in the classroom to help support with vocabulary and language. Finally, our Literacy Team, who works with teachers and scholars to build understanding and close any learning gaps they have in reading.
We have a few events coming up that will help you promote partnerships and support your scholar’s success.
- PWCS Title 1 Family Camp will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Hampton Middle School from 8:30-12:30.
- Neabsco Family-Teacher conferences will be held on November 3, 2025
We hope to see everyone at these events. We want to thank you for your enthusiasm to support literacy and learning.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Carolyn Matthews Matthecj@pwcs.edu , Jessica Monahan Monahaje@pwcs.edu or Jessica Hesser Hesserj@pwcs.edu.
