Head Cheetah Message
Families,
After another busy week at Memorial, we hope that you enjoy the upcoming mid-winter break. There will be no school tomorrow, as our staff will be engaged in a full day of professional learning; and then, following the weekend, we will be off for another two days in honor of the Presidents’ Day holiday. I hope you’re all able to get outside and enjoy the slightly warmer weather! It's the time of year when we all start dreaming of spring flowers! We’ll see you back in school on Wednesday, February 18th!
I’d like to give a special “shout out” to the grade 1 team. In an amazing act of kindness, they collected 530 food items over the last few weeks to be donated to the East Hampton Food Bank. Way to take care of others, first graders!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Joey & Andrea

The 100th Day Of School
Monday was the 100th day of school, which is always a day full of fun and learning at Memorial. Students in many classrooms dressed like they were 100 years old, created 100 day projects, and wore shirts that showed 100 objects in a variety of ways. Most importantly, each activity provided the opportunity to review counting, number sense, and place value! A special thank you to the EHEPTO volunteers who came Friday evening to decorate our lobby and provided us with props for our 100 day photo booth.
The Memorial Post Is Open For Business
The Memorial Post is set up by our Smart Start class every February, and students are encouraged to use the service to send notes of kindness to one another. Our preschool postal workers have set up the post office in the lobby, complete with mailboxes, a chart with all of the teachers’ names and room numbers, and a variety of cards, note paper and envelopes for letter writing. Each day, our young workers collect the mail, sort it by classroom, don their postal gear (which includes postal shirts and mailbags), and drive their postal vehicle around the building to make deliveries. Not only does the mail service bring countless smiles to the faces of our students and staff, but our learners also get lots of letter writing practice! Day 1 included a “Happy Birthday” delivery to Ms. Heather in the front office!
Second Graders Completed A Tableau During Their Wit & Wisdom Lesson
Depicted below, different groups of students in Mrs. Evans’s class are acting out where John Henry competed against the steam drill and won! Pictured here is John Henry swinging his hammer, his shaker, who holds the drill, the mountain, the steam drill itself, and the steam drill operator and foreman. Great job bringing your learning to life, students!
Unified Sports Athletes Went Bowling
On Tuesday, our Unified Sports Team took a field trip to the bowling alley. Our amazing athletes learned new skills, had lots of fun, and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship!
Smart Start Students Turned Into Dalmations
In recognition of 101 days of school, Mrs. Gibson’s preschool class turned into 101 (or 17) dalmations!!
Grade 3 Studies Forces And Motion
Third graders participated in an engaging Science Day on Wednesday centered around forces and motion. Throughout the day, students explored how different forces affect the way objects move. They investigated pushes and pulls, experimented with ramps to observe the effects of friction, examined how gravity influences motion, designed and tested marble mazes, and discovered the unique properties of magnets. Through hands-on investigations and collaborative problem-solving, students deepened their understanding of how forces interact and shape the world around them. It was a day filled with curiosity, creativity, and scientific thinking!

Hi Cheetah families!
February is an exciting month at the Memorial School Library!
See below for grade level classroom expectations.
PreK students are enjoying a variety of read alouds and songs with the themes of Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day, kindness, and friendship.
Kindergarten has finished their unit on the Caldecott Award. This week they worked on their ABC order skills and we talked about how that relates to finding books in the library. We will also spend the last few weeks of the month reading some winter themed books.
First grade has begun their coding unit, using a program called Code Monkey. They are very excited to be using it and are building their computational thinking skills by creating basic sequences using block lines of code.
Second and Third graders will be finishing up their coding unit by the end of the month. Students have been doing a great job advancing and building on their skills. They have moved beyond creating basic sequences and are working on more complex algorithms that include loops and variables.
All families, please note that we have our book fair coming to your child library, between Friday February 28th-Thursday, March 5th.
Family shopping is scheduled for:
Wednesday March 4 from 1-4:00
Thursday March 5 from 1-6:30

Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
