Responsibility: is taking action and understanding the impact of our choices

MCKINNEY ISD INFORMATION
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month
October is recognized worldwide as Dyslexia Awareness Month, a time to come together to raise awareness, share resources, and tell stories about dyslexia successes. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, decoding abilities, and poor spelling.
Did you know:
- 1 in 5 people are Dyslexic~thatβs 20% of our population. It is the most common of all neurocognitive disorders.
- Dyslexia ranges from mild to severe and those with dyslexia use about 5 times more energy to complete mental tasks.
- Dyslexia is hereditary. Children have a 50% chance of having dyslexia if one parent has it.
- Most dyslexics are creative thinkers & have an average, above-average, or highly gifted IQ.
- Over 50% of NASA employees are Dyslexic. This population is deliberately sought after because they have superb problem-solving skills and excellent 3D/spatial awareness.
- Around 40% of people with dyslexia also have ADHD.
MISD School Safety
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty, and staff.
Please this link to view the Standard Response Protocol parent information.

McKinney ISD Bond Election Information
On November 3, 2026, McKinney ISD voters will consider five propositions: Proposition A, a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE), and four bond propositions. The propositions address funding for district operations, including teacher compensation and student programs, as well as safety and security, facility improvements, instructional technology, new schools and other capital projects.
Early voting is October 19β30. We encourage families and community members to learn about each proposition, review financial information and FAQs, and find voting information on the McKinney ISD Election 2026 website. Learn More About Election 2026
Did You Know...?
McKinney ISD covers 109 square miles. Its border extends beyond the city of McKinney and serves students in parts of New Hope, Allen, Fairview, Princeton and Lowry Crossing. It extends north all the way to Anna and as far east as Altoga. To the south, it covers parts of Allen and Fairview and extends to Lucas. Another fun fact...the two McKinney ISD schools furthest from one another (measured by road distance) are Frazier Elementary and Bennett Elementary with the distance from Frazier to McGowen Elementary a close second.
