JAN. 2, 2026 | EMBRACE THE JOURNEY | QTR. 3 WEEK 1
Weekly Message
Good afternoon and Happy New Year!
I hope everyone has had an amazing start to the new year. I am looking forward to getting back to school next week and starting 2026 and the second semester. We have an exciting semester ahead!
As we begin the new semester and year here are some reminders to help students navigate the semester successfully.
1. Cell Phones: While you may see some districts around Central Ohio are just beginning their enforcement of the new state law DCS started at the beginning of this year. As a reminder a students phone should not be visible during the day (7:55-2:42).
2. Academic Integrity: We had some academic integrity issues at the end of the semester. I am resharing our expectations for your review. Please note that if you make the choice to cheat there are significant consequences.
3. Tardiness and Attendance:
- Tardies: Class begins at 7:55 am. If a student is not in the classroom by that time it counts as a tardy. After the 3rd tardy to school, students will be issued a detention. The discipline is progressive as the number of tardies increase. Most of the time a tardy can be avoided by leaving the house 5 minutes earlier.
- Attendance: The best way to report an absence or to leave early/late is to use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Any time a student is NOT is school we need your assistance in reporting the absence. If a student is leaving early they need to work through our attendance team (Mrs. Adolph and Mrs. Bender). If you have specific questions regarding attendance, please contact them.
4. Lunch: We have had an increase of students that are leaving the building for lunch. As a reminder DCS does not have an OPEN lunch. Students that have lunch on their schedule are expected to eat in the building.
Thanks for your support in these areas. If you have any questions or need clarity, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Have a great first weekend of 2026!
Mike

THIS WEEK
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 7: SAVE ACT VIDEO #3
HB 123/Safety and Violence Education Act (SAVE Act) requires specific instruction in suicide awareness and prevention, violence prevention, and social inclusion every year for students in grades 6-12. Programs approved by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce are used to satisfy the requirements of HB 123/SAVE Act; approved programs can be found HERE.
We will show the final training video to students on Wednesday, January 7. We will use the Sandy Hook Promise Video to highlight the importance of violence prevention including suicide. The importance of this topic is due to, statistically, the number of high school students who attempt suicide a year is up to a million individuals, and an at-risk student is more likely to talk to a peer first. This means that a student could be the one to save a life.
Families may opt-out from this 23 minute video. If you would like to opt-out your child, please complete this FORM.
Make Up Exams 2026
Students who missed exam will test using the schedule below. If you have specific questions about an exam, please contact the specific teacher for the course.
