June's Principal's Message with Mrs. Lango June's Principal's Message with Mrs. Lango

Dear CAS Families,

Thank you for all of your support this year, you are incredible!! As we cruise into summer, the month of June will have many fun activities. This is the time of the year to celebrate growth and achievement!

The summer is a great time to work on the skill of independence. The Let Grow program has provided us with a monthly focus that we worked on in school. Your child has completed so many activities that have helped them become more independent (and hopefully have helped you get more comfortable stepping back to allow that growth!). You could say that these experiences are helping your child find their way in the world!

For the month of June we will discuss "Finding their way". In the world this can mean different things:

● Literally, finding your way around! It can mean knowing your way around as you navigate your neighborhood, your community, and other public spaces.

● It can also mean finding your way to experiences that you want to seek out for yourself.

This month, your child will choose an activity that helps them "find their way". That could mean getting to know their way around the neighborhood and community. It could mean making plans for a summer that includes *the independent experiences that they want to have* (which means a more self-reliant kid in need of less heavy lifting from the family! Woohoo!).

Summer of Independence ahead!

  • Explore a new playground, park, or trail near you.
  • Do an errand on your own.
  • Make a map of your neighborhood. (Hint: You might need to do some more exploring of your neighborhood to be able to make a map of it.)
  • Pick a destination within walking distance, ask for directions, and go there with a friend or sibling!
  • Start your own Play Club. (When will your Play Club meet? What kinds of stuff do you want to play at Play Club? Hold your first Play Club meeting!)
  • Make a “Boredom Busters” jar. Fill it with slips of paper, each one with an idea of something you truly would like to do with your free time. Reach for the jar during the summer if you feel bored. (Maybe make the jar with a friend?)
  • Start with some of the activity ideas you thought about doing this past year, but haven’t done yet.
  • Learn how to ride a bike (or how to skate or rollerblade or ride a scooter).
  • Learn how to tune up your bike: adjust the seat, inflate the tires
  • If you’d like to earn some pocket money this summer (ice cream funds?), figure out small jobs/chores you’d like to do to earn that money. Figure out which family, friends and neighbors might be interested in hiring you for those jobs/tasks. Call them up to discuss job opportunities (Yard clean up? Dog walking? Feed the cat? Weed the garden?).
  • Make your summer plans. Make a plan for spending time with friends this summer. What do you want that to look like?
This summer the playground will be closed as we will be receiving a wonderful upgrade. The woodchips will be removed and replaced with a rubberized surface. This will be worth the wait!

CAS School Counseling

Hello CAS Families,

As we enter the final month of the school year, June is a time to celebrate growth, achievements and the hard work students have shown throughout the year. It can also bring excitement, stress and changes in routine. Your support at home continues to make a big difference.

Here are a few ways to support your child during the last few weeks of school.

*Encourage regular sleep and healthy routines.

*Help your child stay organized with assignments and activities.

*Talk to your child about their favorite memories and accomplishments from this year.

*Remind them it is ok to feel both excited and nervous about summer and moving to a new grade.

Summer Tips for families

Student Transportation Update: Assigned Seating on School Buses

After Easter break, assigned seating will be in place on all elementary school buses.

This expectation is being implemented to support a safe, consistent, and well-managed environment for all students. Assigned seating allows drivers to remain focused on the road while also helping to

maintain appropriate behavior and ensure students are accounted for at all times.

Students will be expected to sit in their assigned seat for the entire bus ride each day. We ask for your support in reinforcing this expectation at home, as consistent cooperation is essential to maintaining a safe transportation environment.

If a student does not follow assigned seating expectations, it may result in school bus conduct being addressed in accordance with district policy.

Bus Rules

We also want to give a friendly reminder that there is no eating or drinking on the bus. Also, balloons and other blow-up toys are not allowed on the bus.

Scene Safety

If there is a school bus accident, we kindly ask that you do not come to the scene. For the safety of the students and to allow first responders to work efficiently, we must maintain a controlled environment. Students cannot be released to parents from the roadside. In the unlikely event of an accident, we will keep you updated through district texts, emails, and calls.

If you have any questions, please contact the transportation office at (716) 646-3200 x7222.

Thank you for your attention to these important matters and for your continued partnership in supporting student safety.
