Parenting Tips and Tools: Building Household Harmony and Family Connection
Wednesday, March 22, 6:00-7:30 pm Bellview Elementary School, Gym
Understanding the basics of brain science and emotional self-regulation helps us guide and teach our children with more confidence and connection. During this workshop, you will learn about and have the opportunity to practice some simple and effective ways to calm and connect with your child, while establishing important expectations and routines in your home.
Our wonderfully talented and dedicated elementary CDS (Child Development Specialist) team will be leading this workshop. They are Michelle Bolinger (Bellview), Amber Langer (TRAILS), Brooke Johnson-Thygeson (Walker), Kat Smith (Helman) and Britt Humphrey (Willow Wind).
Childcare and snacks are provided for this event, register through Eventbright here: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/asd-elementary-parent-workshop-series-spring-2023-1730729
World Down Syndrome Day- Rock Your Socks March 21st!
Little fun fact of “Rock Your Socks” for World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on March 21st:
These are chromosomes (pictured above).
The one circled is chromosome 21 – note the three copies of the chromosome. This is Trisomy 21 also known as Down syndrome. You and I have just two copies of Chromosome 21. People with Down syndrome have 3 copies.
They look like socks, right? This is where the idea of Rock your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day was born from… simple!
On March 21st, World Down Syndrome Day, we celebrate and raise awareness by wearing our brightest, loudest socks.
And why is WDSD held on March 21st?
21:3 (chromosome 21, 3 copies = 21st day of 3rd month of the year)
March is Pokemon Month!
Dear Bellview Parents:
At Bellview, we have monthly structured games at recess times. March is Pokemon & UNO month! UNO is fairly self explanatory, but we have agreed on some parameters to the Pokemon play so that it does not become a distraction for students in class. If your student is interested in participating, here are the rules:
- Pokemon Play will be available during student’s recess times and will be played at the green picnic tables outside.
- Students may bring a small bag (ziplock or lunch bag size) with their name on it. Binders or other large collections are not to be brought to school.
- Students will keep the cards in their backpack until they go to their classrooms in the morning, at which time they will put them into a designated bin.
- The bin will be taken outside for recess and at the end of recess the cards go back in their bags and return to the tub, which will go back to the classroom
- Cards can be taken from the tub and put in their backpacks at the end of the day and taken home if they wish.
- After school will not be a time to play, as we don’t have enough supervision at that time for the activity.
- Students who have their cards out at times other than recess will have them taken and held in the office until the end of the day.
- The season will run for the month of March, after that, the cards need to stay home.
Sincerely,
Christine McCollom

Youth Truth Student & Family Survey
Bellview School wants to hear from our students and families! We’re partnering with YouthTruth to hear what students and families have to say about their school experience. This feedback will give us valuable feedback to better understand the experience of students and families so we can work to improve our school climate! If you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact Christine McCollom.
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on 3/24/23 by clicking this link: http://www.ytsurvey.org/asdfamily23
Please note:
- The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
- We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
- If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
- If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
