Hosford Middle School
February 8, 2026
Dear Families,
This week we have an early release on Wednesday at 1:45 pm, and the dance after school on Friday. Please think about joining us as a volunteer at the dance. Sign-ups are below.
As you know, the district is facing a 50 -55 million dollar funding gap. We will be talking with staff this week about changes that may happen within our Hosford staffing, but these changes will not be finalized until the end of February.
Students in 6th and 7th grade have completed their forecasting requests. We will be reviewing these requests and reflecting on students' requests, teacher licensure and teacher preferences when determining what elective courses we will be offering next year. All students will take math, english language arts, social science, science, physical education and health.
We will update you on staffing changes, expected class size and elective offerings when they are determined.
Have a wonderful week,
Jill Liddle, Principal

All Smiles Community Oral Health will be providing free dental screenings, sealants, and fluoride at Hosford the week of March 30, 2026. Healthy teeth are important to your child’s overall health.
- A dental screening is a quick look inside your child’s mouth to check the overall health of their teeth.
- Dental sealants are protective coatings put on the back teeth to prevent cavities.
- Fluoride is a vitamin that is brushed on the teeth to make teeth stronger and prevent cavities.
Click this link to sign the permission form for your child online. Each student who turns in a permission form will be entered into a $50 raffle drawing, even if you decline services! Paper copies of the consent form will also be sent home with students.

Forecasting for next year!
Forecasting update for 6th & 7th grade families
This week, counselors went into 6th and 7th grade social science classes for forecasting. Below please find the presentations and links for both grades. Forecasting for next year is due February 5th and should be done on the google sheet attached. Students worked on this during the class visits, but it can be resubmitted up until February 5th. Please feel free to make changes and fill out the form again if you decide to as a family, and we will keep the latest submission. We are so excited for students to try out new electives as they move up, but it's also important to note that no electives are guaranteed at this point. Make sure to rank requests carefully and we will do our best to place kids in the classes they most want.

We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming trip to Italy in Summer 2027, and your student is invited! This life-changing experience will help students build confidence, independence, and global perspective. We’re holding a one-time informational meeting to share everything you need to know—and spots on this trip are limited:
Find meeting info and RSVP here: https://rsvp.eftours.com/yx3y3w3
Why attend? You'll learn about what we’ll see and do, academic opportunities, trip cost, and more. You'll also get first access to limited spots and learn how to save $200 with early enrollment. Ms. Eigo and Ms. Brown will be leading this trip, so please reach out beforehand with any questions (meigo@pps.net). We look forward to seeing you there!

Cleveland Youth Track and Field season is almost upon us! The season starts March 9 and we are looking for a few more coaches. Some of our most dedicated coaches have come from the Hosford and Sellwood communities, and we need help supporting our team of almost 250 kids in a variety of disciplines! If you (or someone you know) love to run, jump, throw, or just wrangle children and are available March 9 - May 9 on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5-6:30 for practices, please contact the program coordinator Meghan Eigo at meigo@pps.net. Thank you so much for supporting our program!
Pencils Needed
We collect them off the floor, charge husky bucks for one in class, but our students are writing through our pencil supply. If you are able and willing to donate some, we'd be so appreciate!
The Hosford PTSA needs more helpers. We are currently operating without a president and vice president among other board members. Please consider helping even if you want to do just a small one-time task. We could really use help with the following events and tasks:

- Staff Appreciation help - coordinate one or more snack events for staff; do something for Staff Appreciation Week in May; coordinate end-of-year staff party
- 8th Grade Oaks Park field trip help - help organize meal for the 8th graders at their end-of-year field trip in June
- 8th Grade Promotion help - help organize reception refreshments at 8th grade promotion in June
Open Positions:
