Maverick Community News: November 3rd - 7th
The Definition of Hoka Hey!
Good Morning Mav Nation,
As we end October and enter November, I must stop and say thank you! October is one of the busiest months in the fall. From athletics to performing arts to FFA our students and teachers are working hard inside and outside the classroom.
Not only have our students and staff been busy with their teams, clubs and organizations, they added a busy Homecoming week, Brazoria County Fair, Marching Band Competitions, Fall Play, and Red Ribbon Week.
We had several student clubs and organizations participate in our HoCo parade and Fall Festival. Both of the events required extra hours and late nights for our students and teacher sponsors.
Majestics, Cheer and Band supported every football game, a community parade & pep rally and helped us pull off an incredible Glow in the Dark Pep Rally.
Theater closed out 3 days of Fall Show Performances and answered my call to help with the Glow in the Dark Pep Rally with only 3 Days to prepare.
Although most students and staff enjoyed a week off in October, football and volleyball were at MHS everyday during fall break whether it was for practice or a game.
Our student council organized a great homecoming week and red ribbon week for MHS and many of the STUCO officers are involved with other campus organizations.
The month of November is associated with giving thanks, so today I give thanks to my amazing students and staff members at MHS!
Hoka Hey!

Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, parents must complete two forms in the Skyward Parent Portal:
- Health Notice and Consent Form
- Counseling Notice and Consent Form
Forms will be available beginning August 30, 2025, and must be submitted by September 12, 2025.
Please note: While parental consent is required for health and mental health services, certain legally required activities—such as behavioral threat assessments—require parental notification but do not allow an opt-out option under the law.
Senate Bill 12: Parental Consent for Club Participation
During the 89th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 was passed, requiring school districts to inform parents and guardians of their rights and to seek parental consent for students to participate in clubs.
Per SB 12: A school district or open-enrollment charter school must require the written consent of the parent of or person standing in parental relation to a student enrolled in the district or school before the student may participate in a student club.
Below is the Consent Form that must be completed for students to participate in clubs on campus.
Students must wear their ID and be in Dress Code Daily

Booking is Now Open for 2026 Senior Photos!
Parents please check your email from CADY. Our picture company has been sending emails to all Class of 2026 families with emails registered in Skyward.
Unlike underclassmen pictures, every senior has the opportunity to take a selection of senior photos. CADY offers a variety of sessions but all seniors must sign-up for a session to ensure your picture is included in the Yearbook and in the slideshow that is shown before graduation.
If you do not want to complete a full photoshoot with CADY, at the bottom of "Choose Sessions", there is a yearbook only session for $10. The $10 sitting fee is a fundraiser for the senior class and is used to help lower the cost for the senior trip, prom, etc.
Don't want to go to the CADY Studio, No worries! There will be 4 Senior Roadshows were the studio will come to MHS. You still must BOOK the session online. This is a great option if you only want the Standard ($59), Simple ($29) or Yearbook Only ($10) session.

2025 Varsity Football Schedule
As we look ahead to a successful 2025-26 school year, we want to make you aware of a new state law, House Bill 1481, which was passed by the Texas Legislature. House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day.
This law applies to:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Earbuds and headphones
- Tablets or any device that can text, call, record, or access the internet
In Alvin ISD, the expectation is simple: Not Seen. Not Heard. Not Taken.
Students may bring phones and personal electronic devices to school.
However, from the moment students enter the building in the morning until the final dismissal bell cell phones must be powered off or silenced, stored in a backpack or locker, and not used during class, passing periods, lunch, or restroom breaks.
Use in the Hallways
The use of personal communication devices in prohibited at all times.
Use at Lunch
Lunch is considered part of the school day so the use of electronic devices is prohibited under Texas Law.
Emergency Situations
Administrators may approve the use of cell phones in emergency situations where the device is necessary for the health or safety of students or others.
The Texas law requires school districts to administer disciplinary consequences if students violate the personal communication device policy in schools. Each infraction of this policy will result in the following escalating consequences:
- First offense – Device taken, returned to student
- Second – Parent must pick up
- Third – $15 fine + parent pickup
Refusal to hand over a device = disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct
Why this matters:
This law supports focused classrooms, respectful spaces, and safe learning for all.
Parents:
Please talk with your child about expectations before school starts. For emergencies, contact the campus office.
Key Features of the Calendar:
A Fall Break October 13 - 17, aligning with the Brazoria County Fair
