LITTLE FREE LIBRARY - ESTABLISHED BY OUR MAYOR ASHTAN CLANTON
Hi everyone!
Ashtan Clanton (5th grade) has been working on his mayor project for the year. He has decided that he would like to purchase a Little Free Library for Meadow. He put together a great speech explaining the benefits of literacy and how this library will help promote reading in Meadow. If you haven't heard of a Little Free Library, it is a give and take type system where you can take any book inside as long as you place a book back. Or you can put books in you don't need any more for other people to enjoy. It is a way to teach honesty, responsibility, and integrity for the members of the community and help others enjoy good books. He has committed to taking care of it while he is a Meadow Bronco and with the help of the Elementary and City Hall, we are hoping this will be a successful tool for years to come.
That being said, I am looking for some book donations in GOOD condition of all reading levels to start a library for the book barn. You can bring them to me, or I can come pick them up.
We are also looking for monetary donations to help fund the project. These book barns are not cheap. If you feel called to donate, please let me know. No pressure at all!
He and I cannot wait to share this project with the community.
He is really proud of this idea (as am I).
Maybe you can stop by and visit it one day with your family 🙂
I will keep you updated on the process. I have attached a photo of the cute book barn.
Thank you so much,
Jenna Wesley, M.S. Ed.
Puedes traérmelos o puedo ir a recogerlos.
Muchas gracias,
Jenna Wesley, MS Ed.
A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! To quote one of my favorite childhood authors, Dr. Seuss… “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” I truly believe that reading opens the world to everyone. You can experience fantasy and adventure. You can learn about history and our world. You can be entertained. Reading is also an extremely vital piece of growing our kiddos here in school and leading them to successes. And, one doesn’t stop reading just because they are no longer in school. So, in honor Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd, I encourage you and your kiddos to gather some books and read them together. Get lost in the pages and let your minds wander!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!

KINDERGARTEN - MRS. SANCHEZ
Hello parents,
We’ve been super busy in kindergarten.
-Phonics- We will be learning about voiced and unvoiced sound for digraph th. The students will continue to work on generating rhyming words, accents, alphabetizing and omitting initial/final sounds to create new words.
-Math - The students will be listening to stories and then determining whether it is an addition or subtraction sentence. The students will be listening to key words and then drawing pictures to solve the problem.
Reading- We will continue to work on comprehension questions after reading and students will continue to think, pair and share to answer those questions. We will continue to identify genre, and type of genre, author’s purpose and point of view.
Sight words-I will be testing students on all the sight words starting this week.
AR – read the AR library books to your child for at least 20 minutes so they can take an AR test. The end of the third quarter is almost over. Let’s keep working to meet our goal.
Please call the office, or message me on Class Dojo, if your child is sick.
Thanks for all your support.
Mrs. Sanchez

3RD GRADE - MRS. HOUCHIN & MRS. SMITH
Hello 3rd grade families,
This week in reading, we started our review over fiction. Students read and analyzed a paired passage that focused on the elements of folktales in both story and poetry form. Folktales are stories told that focus on the lesson learned by the character; we call that theme or moral of the story. The students completed test based questions based on both passages that they read. This included multiple choice, hot shot, and extended and short constructed response questions. Next week, we will review nonfiction in the same way. These last two weeks are crucial as we get ready to start test prep for STAAR. The reading STAAR test will be April 9th, so after spring break we will begin STAAR prep.
In phonics this week, we applied our background knowledge to read and spell multisyllabic words and analyzed syllable division with overlapping patterns. The ability to break words apart and identify syllable breaks allows students to spell and increases reading fluency.
For social studies this week, we continued our unit over the physical environment and the effects that humans have on conservation when it comes to natural resources.
Reminders:
Please have your child at school every day and on time.
If your child will not be at school, please message on class DoJo and call the office
Please make sure your child is completing daily homework and reading for at least 20 minutes every night.
Please make sure to check and sign your child’s folder every night.
Thank you for all you do,
Temple Smith
Gracias por todo lo que hacen,
templo herrero
Math/Science
In math we are learning how to tell time to the nearest minute and to use elapsed time to find an ending time.
In science we are learning about the relationship between the sun, moon, and Earth
Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts every night. Math fact tests are on Thursdays
Math fact homework is due on Thursdays.
We are getting VERY close to the STAAR test
4TH GRADE - MRS. WESLEY
4th and 5th ELAR
This week we took a practice STAAR test to prepare us for the real STAAR on April 9th. I will send those results home as soon as I have them, so you are able to view them as well. The students took this test for practice, gaining confidence, and for me to see what type of questions they were confused on so that I may clear those up for them before the STAAR. I will be tailoring my whole group and small group instruction to meet the needs of each child, as always, to help them be best prepared for April 9th and for years to come.
Reminders..
- Spelling Tests are OVER until after the STAAR test.
Students MUST read at minimum 20 minutes EACH night. This is mandatory.
Spring break is from March 8-18. Please get all of your traveling done then because I will need students in class every day to properly finish preparing for the STAAR.
STAAR Test is on April 9th for Reading.
Please message me and call Sandy in the office if your child will be out.
Thank you so much,
Jenna Wesley
4to y 5to ELAR
Muchas gracias,
Jenna Wesley
5TH GRADE - MRS. GAMEZ & MRS. GUZMAN
4th & 5th Math
-In 4th grade Math, we are wrapping up our Geometry Unit. Next week, we will begin our STAAR Review. I need students to be in class every day because with some of the units we will not stay long reviewing them. We will stay longer reviewing math concepts we struggled with during the year.
-In 5th grade, we are still working on graphs and soon we will start working on reviewing for the STAAR test. Like the 4th graders, I need fifth grade students to be in class every day because with some of the units we will not stay long reviewing them. We will stay longer reviewing math concepts we struggled with during the year.
-All 4th and 5th Graders need to practice multiplication math facts every night for 5 minutes. Please, please, please…the numbers and the work is getting more challenging and not knowing multiplication math facts make it seem impossible. Some students shut down or do not turn in assignments. Students who are not passing their multiplication facts quiz on Monday have to complete a multiplication fact table, three nights a week. If students do not know their multiplication math facts, they need to be able create a multiplication fact table during the STAAR test.
Thank you for your support,
Stacy Gamez
5th Grade:
We are finishing up on Food Webs! The students have walked through a food web, made a yarn food web, created their own food web on the desk, ALL the food webs! They have also been reminded about the types of organisms in each web. So fun!
4th Grade:
They started their projects over a planet of their choice! They are always so excited when they find out new information about space. I love it!

¡Me encanta! Caitlyn Guzmán Ciencias y estudios sociales de 4.º/5.º grado
