Dear families and friends of MLD,
What a busy and joyful week it has been at Mildred L. Day! Here are some of the highlights.
Growing as Science Educators
This week, our teachers took part in professional development in a variety of ways, all focused on taking our science instructional practices to the next level. We are always learning so that we can keep bringing our students engaging, hands-on, and meaningful science experiences.
Another Glowing Success
Mr. Woodcock hosted another incredible Glow Run! The gym was full of light, energy, and smiles. A big thank you to Mrs. Goebel for helping set up the gym. Thanks to her work, the event ran like a top!
First Grade Meets Our Community Helpers
Our first graders enjoyed a wonderful Community Helpers event, where they met the people, and explored the equipment, that help keep our community safe. Many thanks to Officer Drew for coordinating with the Fire Department, EMS, the Maine Warden Service, Public Works, and the Police Department to make this special experience possible for our students.
A Fantastic Friday
We closed out the week with a full and exciting day:
- Picture Retakes gave students another chance to show off their best smiles.
- A Special Morning Welcome came from former MLDers who now play for the Kennebunk Rams football team and cheer squad. What a treat for our students to see these role models return to their elementary school!
- Hopa My Boata Floata, our impressive annual event, put our 5th graders’ engineering skills to the test. Students designed and 3-D printed their own boats, then competed in head-to-head races, weight-holding challenges, and more. All the credit goes to Mrs. Dupuis for her rigorous work with our oldest students. We are so proud of their creativity and persistence!
With rain in the forecast and a wave of cold weather on the way, we hope you enjoy a cozy weekend together. Grab a warm blanket, a good book, and something hot to drink!
